(24,469 posts)Grisham writes that Melania Trump was Dismissive. Defeated. Detached, according to Playbook. While a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, Melania Trump was preparing for a photo shoot of a rug she had selected and declined to tweet Grishams suggestion that Americans have the right to peaceful protest but not lawlessness and violence.

(42,770 posts)Lack of curiosity and compassion ever? Grisham's calling her Mary Antoinette may be the best description.
And Grisham may be scum but no way in the world did she make the decision to not have pressers.

(9,998 posts)NOBODY associated with TFG is going to be held accountable.
The discussion about Melania being deported, arrested, or whatever the hell is the thought today, is Laughable.
If you're looking for ANY accountability for ANYTHING they did these past years, you're in the wrong country.

The DOJ has zero stomach for a fight to protect the nation from a 2nd Trump term.

(42,770 posts)thick in the reading sense, that it was drudgery. So now I've got a bookcase full of half read books. The only one that was really enjoyable and very easy to read was believe it or not Omarosa's. I do want to finish Michael Cohen's tho.
One thing that they can't ever seem to explain is why they were so enamored with him and stayed with him for so long. Omarosa and Michael Cohen tried very hard to explain.

(58,785 posts)after spoiling her nests where she'd already been? She really was drawn to this charismatic leader? I sort of pegged Cohen (without reading his book) as a loyal authoritarian type who'd found a leader to serve in tRump. ?
I have a good number of partially-read books also, especially those that get really boggy with details important for scholars but not me. Neither my memory or attention span are what they used to be.

(42,770 posts)Back when most of the public thought trump was a powerhouse.
If you watch the documentary on Netflix about the Trump family dynasty, it is so apparent that he fooled many many people at first including major networks and press. Greatest self promoter ever..one person said.
I still liken his ascent and fall to a runaway train. Seemingly harmless and awesome at first and horrible and unstoppable on the descent. If we hadn't acted quickly on mail in voting when we did and caught them flat footed, we would still be living in his reign of horror.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Her, of course.
Runaway train is a vivid analogy. Everything that supported his election was something gone dreadfully wrong. I suspect our government would already have been taken over if voters didn't give us control of the house in 2018.
Oh, well. On to tomorrow. So far it's looking like California tRump is being soundly rejected.

(42,770 posts)for Cohen. More local for him. Being able to wield power in NYC using Trump as his benefactor? He grew up working in a country club, meeting mafia boss types. He seemed enamored by their wealth and power.
He's a very tragic character in all this. And one of the few who turned on Trump. I think spending time in jail and the influence his wife had on him to turn his life around made a lot of difference.
Cohen has spent endless hours with prosecutors. I know the wheels of justice turn slowly but I don't understand why it's taking so long. That reminds me what's going on with trump's accountant?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)With tRump's power he was able to act as if it was his, and tRump instructed him in how he wanted it use. Easy to imagine him as one of the many who are good in environments that expect it but could be criminal thugs in the environment around tRump.
Boy, aren't we all waiting and wondering about that last? Timing's virtually always a huge, critical factor. The bad guys have enormous power and are using it as best they can manage, I imagine almost always including to delay. I think we're all afraid, with reason, that potentially huge (and even dangerous) costs to an already unstable nation of pursuing justice could lead to decisions to put most big tRump admin crimes behind us. But we need tRump and company in prison.
Well, reportedly NY prosecutors are aggressively at it, so maybe they're all busily planning for the stars to align? Hope so.
