(34,407 posts)I agree with some of the replies that (a) it was unethical for Politico to publish something clearly labeled off the record and (b) Rubin may have hoped to trick them into publishing this on-point critique.

(16,313 posts)Though Id note that while Rubin has said and written a lot of dumb shit, she has never made the case How DeSantis won the pandemic as Politico did about 8 months ago.
Behold the stupidity and bad hot take:

(58,785 posts)who joined with liberals create the New Deal, Fair Deal, Great Society, voting rights acts, etc, etc., etc. Not ot insult her by saying she agrees with everything liberals want, by a long shot, but she's one of the good kind we can work with and must reunite with to stop the potentially extremely bad ones. Who are always with us.

(1,879 posts)I'd be very interested to hear some of your comments on this supposed "thoughtful" conservative with a little reminder.
Her articles in the wake of the Trayvon Martin verdict are especially enlightening as to what a "good Conservative" Ms. Rubin is.

(58,785 posts)for several decades now. But they have never lead me to confuse conservatives capable of responsible decisions and commitment to democracy with the kind of viciously dangerous RW extremists who've taken over the Republican Party.
Hard-core Christian conservatives, Christian dominionists, and greedy wealthy always rule some areas and always plot to take over nationally. And other extremists and clueless idiots are always available to help them kick over the national applecart.
Majorities formed by alliances of those liberals and conservatives capable of maintaining a democratic government are the only reason the U.S. didn't become a police state and decline into oppressed poverty long ago.
Reality is, there aren't enough of us to do it alone. So, yes, I like Rubin on our side just fine. More! We need more!

"Do you work in the Biden administration? Are you in touch with the White House? Are you associate counsel SEAN CROTTY?
We want to hear from you and well keep you anonymous: westwingtips@politico.com."

(10,823 posts)If you live by open warfare with others this is what you get. They got snarky with Rubin and she pushed backed. The fact they published her response after she labeled it 'off the record' says everything you need to know about their integrity.
The click-bait was more important.

(11,726 posts)As they should be. I am not a particular fan of Rubin and I agree that a lot of her criticism of Obama was ridiculous. However, Politico had moments, maybe, in the early 2000's but it truly is a clickbait tabloid style of "news site" now. It stirs the shit rather than actually reporting on viable credible information.
They printed a spot on criticism about their own stupidity, thinking it was a "gotcha" piece on a journalist/columnist but the reactions are hopefully showing them that they miscalculated their own value.

(1,879 posts)I know who she really is, just like all the other Conservatives who lost their jobs due to Trumpism.
