from sex'---
"Women can 'control their reproductive lives' without access to abortion; they can do so by refraining from sexual intercourse," he wrote in a brief earlier this year. "One can imagine a scenario in which a woman has chosen to engage in unprotected (or insufficiently protected) sexual intercourse on the assumption that an abortion will be available to her later. But when this court announces the overruling of Roe, that individual can simply change their behavior in response to the court's decision if she no longer wants to take the risk of an unwanted pregnancy."

Emphasis mine
And there it is. Power, control, punishment and Patriarchy. Nothing to do with the foetus, never has been. Theocratic control freaks wanting women uneducated, bare footed, pregnant and in the kitchen.

(43,049 posts)The natural order of things is that men are always blindly searching for sex and it is the job of women to fend off their urges while choosing the one man worthy of her affections.
Or something like that. Some Muslims have women cover themselves because men can't control themselves. Some ultra orthodox Jews require women to wear wigs for similar reasons. And so it goes.
But, never any sex until marriage! They ignore the idea that marriage only exists to have a means of making some guy responsible for fatherhood. Way back when, they had no idea how to figure out who the biological father was, so inventing the family unit solved a lot of problems. Caused a lot, too.
Throughout it all, though, anything bad that happened had to be the woman's fault. Men simply had no control over their urges, so they could never be at fault.
Any wonder that God gave up and just walked away...

(16,272 posts)Idiot seems to assume that all married women are happy to have any number of kids that happen to come a,ong. Why not? After all, they're married! Aren't all married women supposed to just shoot out kids like two legged Pez dispensers? Isn't that what women are FOR?
People like this cretin assume that ALL abortions happen because of unmarried women having unprotected (or "insufficiently protected," whatever the hell that means, because ANY birth control method csn fail) sex. They think it's all just SO simple!

Now women whose babies die in utero are forced to carry to term because I kid you not...God might bring said baby back to life. It is a disgrace. I hope all women rise up in every state and show these incels the door.

This is what women were thought of not that long ago. This is what women are still thought of by some evangelicals and knuckle dragging incel idiots who believe it's still 1900.
I feel so sorry for women in this day and age. I thought we'd be WAY beyond this sort of crap in the year 2021.

(63,221 posts)that means a man isn't getting any sex from that woman either. Imagine if every woman of child-bearing age who did not want to have a baby did exactly that. Just stopped having sex with men.
Do right-wing christian men ever think things through? Where do these men think they are going to get sex from? Their frigid, Christian wives? "Unholy, forbidden" prostitutes? Spill their precious seed on the ground through self-gratification?

So what if it's only going to die an agonizingly miserable death due to said condition? It got to get BORN! What could be more important than that?

(7,997 posts)This is what it's been about all along. It's not about babies. It's about controlling women's sexuality. I saw it with the abstinence-only groups in schools where girls could reemerge as born-again virgins after having had sex. I saw it with the father-daughter pledges at a "purity ball." I've never seen boys/young men pledging to their mothers at a purity ball. I am not against a young woman who decides she wants to remain a virgin until marriage but that's some sick stuff when virginity is the ultimate goal.
Women are under attack and we're going to have to get serious and fight back.

Even though the "relationship status" of women who want an abortion is irrelevant, just wanted to point out that even on this point, the idiot from Texas is wrong when more than a third of women who seek abortions are married or in long term stable relationships.
It isn't about women "waiting till marriage". If it is at all about sex, then it takes TWO people to have sex. I see NO message to men to "keep it in their pants". It is just women who get the blame with these idiots.
Keep talking though. Keep showing everyone that it has fuckall to do with "protecting life" and everything to do with controlling and punishing women for having bodily autonomy.

(6,679 posts)Women are so often coerced into sex. Let us count the ways.
My own mother once told me she hated the act but thought it her duty and didn't want dad to run off. She never wanted kids. Her economic options outside marriage were nearly zero.
Women do have it better now but the consequences of saying no are too often worse than just doing it.
