(10,715 posts)then just about every country on the planet is at war with just about every other country.
I don't see how shifting the goalposts from "end the war and bringing all the troops home" to "close the embassy and bring home the diplomats and guards too" accomplishes anything.

My first thought when I read the story about the recent defense cuts was, that drones are a cheaper way to wage war, especially for a nation with our balance sheet.
It is very troubling.

(24,407 posts)Bush started the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and dumped both of them on Obama, who vowed to end both of them during the 2008 campaign but made it clear that it would not be immediately, which I thought was reasonable. Our military involvement in Libya was in support of NAT and limited to air support. We never put any boots on the ground. What other wars are you referring to? Moreover, we are out of Iraq now and will be out of Afghanistan in 2014. Bush let both wars drag on for 7-8 years (Afghanistan) and 5-6 (Iraq) with no willingness to consider any timetables for ending either of them (well, at least until the very end in regards to Iraq).

(116,464 posts)joins the ranks of President who ended a war, and will likely become a President who ends two major wars.
He is also the first President to end a defense system and take serious action to rein in nuclear materials, which is what earned him the Nobel Prize.
He also put forward a new strategic vision for the military:
Obama Puts His Stamp on Strategy for a Leaner Military

In fact, his proposals are more tangible than the propaganda that Ron Paul has been pushing.

(10,960 posts)One can say that only the commander in chief can be said to wage war and that is what it is.
In terms of the real political meaning of the statement, though, I'd say Kissinger has Obama beat.

(4,578 posts)I think he has taken a completely different approach and got out of the Iraq quagmire in the process.
But I fear the war drums by the military industrial complex are beating hard for Iran. I can't support any war on Iran.

The Peace Price is not about who has the least to do with the war, or they'd have given it to me.
