A caller to Thom Hartmann's show had a great idea.
If the GOP shuts down the government over this, President Biden can ignore that, and order the Treasury Secretary
to keep on paying the bills.
The only recourse the GOP would have is to take the WH to court.
This puts the GOP in the position of demanding that our debts not be paid.
This makes them dead beats who want the government to fail to pay it's debts.
Even their own supporters will hate this.

(2,868 posts)to deal with the debt ceiling on their own, Treasury Secretary Yellen had the best idea, just eliminate it. There's no requirement.
The Dems have never held the debt ceiling hostage, but the Repubs do it every time the Dems are in power, so just eliminate it.
