(9,998 posts)What we believe should happen and what will happen are completely different things.
I'll wait until there's an actual accountability. I'm old enough that I've seen this same story many times before, and left 99% unsatisfied by the ending.

But its standards have fallen a bit over the past few years.
Even so, the comment previous to yours was spot on. I'll believe it when I see it.

(406 posts)Somewhere in the chain of non-command and disinformation in the Trump world is an ego nearly as big as his that is just waiting to be the definitive one who brings TFG DOWN BIGLY.

But let's displace him long before he throws his hat in the ring for 2024. PLEASE.

(8,677 posts)I recall in the 1980's here in Denver, a bank by the name of Silverado, run by Michael Wise. He was a prime player in the Savings and Loan debacle that swept all across the nation.
He committed outright massive fraud for himself and wealthy friends, that cost the taxpayers an estimated two billion to bail his bank out.
The first day of trial, a TEXAS Judge was "brought in" for the trial. (Micheal made sure to have appointed Neil Bush as a director at his bank a year before). It was a slam dunk case, no question. The prosecution had evidence X 100.
The Texas judge looked at the prosecution's overwhelming evidence that first morning, and basically threw the case out of court on a technicality by Noon. And Michael Wise walked...........

I'm sure when it is revealed what Trump, his spawn, Republican politicians, and all his Republican cronies stole, that S&L stuff will seem like petty shoplifting......

But prosecutors have issued new subpoenas and are continuing to use the extensive powers of a New York grand jury to possibly add new charges and new defendants to the case.
.
As Trump campaigned for the Presidency, Weisselberg began erasing evidence of his work, prosecutors say.
.
If true, the allegation would mean that, in addition to Weisselberg and Trumps accountants keeping a set of records detailing the companys finances, there was another ledger, one specifically maintained, the name implies, for Donald J. Trump.
.
If there was a ledger for him, it blows up the notion that Trump didnt know about it

(12,817 posts)Nixon and Watergate. Zip.
Raygun and Iran Contra. Zip.
Bush and Weapons of Mass Destruction lies. Zip.
The Reich Wing gets away with it.
Nixon was a step away from being impeached and in all likelihood being convicted and removed from office. He chose to resign and Gerald Ford pardoned him. Nothing could be done to him although many in his Administration went to jail and it cost Ford the election in 76.
As for Reagan who really knows what he knew about Iran Contra. Oliver North was convicted but then overturned because of a technicality. Casper Weinberger was charged and was going to trial until Bill Barr advised Bush 1 to pardon him.
As for Bush 2 the Democrats only controlled the house and senate for two years and half of that was spent dealing with the start of the recession. Although I would have liked Obama to go after Bush he had to get the economy back on track and get the ACA through congress.
One of the differences here is that the charges are coming from a state level and there is less pressure from the DOJ to slow walk it or drop it. Also you don't go hunting for big game with a slingshot and for Trump you better bring the whole arsenal which is why they are taking thier time and building evidence.
Don't forget people in New York hate Trump and they don't like people who cheat on thier taxes.

(1,910 posts)Get Trump? No one can even get a low level congress man who many of his own peers don't like. At the time his wing man got the great plea deal every single legal expert on TV said that meant he must have given concrete proof to indict someone very high up. Yet nothing.
Seems like the better answer was he was another connected scumbag who got a sweet plea deal, and gave up nothing of value in return.
