Coal Mining Sux

English rocker Eric Burdon (the Animals) grew up in the coal mining city of Newcastle. When he was 11 years old, he noticed that coal mining families were pretty well off, including his own (his father was a coal miner). However, his father didn’t want him to mine coal, so he took Eric to a mine to show him what it was like. Eric was rather put off by the experience. The rest is history. Young people of West Virginia take note.

Generations of Welsh coal miners on my dad's side of the family. His father was trapped in a collapsed mine but survived.

Both men decided mining was no life for their sons so they moved to Flint, one from Pennsylvania and one from Maryland, and got jobs at Buick Motors. They were nodding acquaintances when my parents got engaged.

go to college there was the mine or the steel mill. There is no way I could work
in the mine, I went to the the mill. It sucked but you could see daylight. Some of the mines were like 3 foot high.

Both various forms of contour mining and mountaintop removal?

If you remove a mountain top and the coal seam, can you create a mountaintop reservoir for use in pumped hydro energy storage?
