(insert list of benefits from build back better)
so house dems have bailed out of DC for 2 weeks. They could take that time for a relentless campaign against repubs to get an answer to the question in my title - in other words shift the focus of the messaging onto repubs and off the internal negotiations.
well maybe dems are gonna do that but not getting hopes up.

(2,870 posts)they are really in a tough spot politically. They know that, while the things in the Biden agenda might not be ideal solutions, they know that much of it will work and be popular. With their party and their rich backers married to the TFG albatross, their fear is real.
Think about what happened in the 30's. The New Deal changed America for the better with programs that created a safety net for seniors and some serious job creation. It also led to the dominant Democratic majorities in Congress for decades. Even GOP presidents couldn't do anything but tinker around the edges until the Reagan 80s.
That's what is going on here. They don't want another half century in the wilderness, but they have no counter proposals--and their money don't want any--that could actually help people. And if they can't make President Biden a failure they can't beat his reelection, the MFTFG or not. If the lion's share of this agenda passes, the economic recovery continues strong, people have more money in their pockets, some progress is made on climate issues and our very needy infrastructure with a lot of good new jobs.
While the monied interests seem to always look for short term gain/profit over long term issues, the politicos on that side face a more direct calculus--if Biden is successful, they are really screwed, probably for a long time.

Their attitude clearly isn't:
OTHER PEOPLE MATTER!
But instead, one party is practically celebrating ignorance and scamming at every turn, no scruples or caring shown?
OTHER PEOPLE MATTER!
