The Department of Defense is investigating a US Marine who told a Trump rally to be "the guy that pulled the baby over the wall" in Kabul, Task & Purpose reported. An August 19 video taken during the frenzied US military pullout from Kabul showed a US Marine hoisting a tiny baby girl over a razor-wire fence outside Kabul airport.
At a "Save America" rally in Perry, Georgia, last Saturday, Lance Cpl. Hunter Clark appeared to claim he was that Marine.
"Hey my name's Lance Corporal Hunter Clark, I'm here from Warner Robins, Georgia.
I am the guy that pulled the baby over the wall and it's definitely probably one of the greatest things I've ever done in my entire life," he said.
Clark's command said that Clark was not the Marine seen in the August 19 video.
Clark is also under investigation as a result of his appearance, Task & Purpose reported. "The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit has initiated a command investigation regarding LCpl Hunter Clark's attendance at the event last weekend to determine if any DoD policies were violated," Capt. Kelton J. Cochran, a spokesman for the 24th MEU, told the outlet.
Department of Defense guidelines prohibit US troops from speaking "before a partisan political gathering, including any gathering that promotes a partisan political party, candidate, or cause."

The baby seen in the video was ultimately reunited with her father, the Marine Corps later told NBC News.

(18,486 posts)I looked it up because the discussion peaked my interest and found this:
According to military law experts, DoD Directive 1344.10 dictates whether active-duty military members can participate in political activities, including protests and rallies.
That directive, they say, does allow military members to personally engage in partisan activities, including writing letters to the editor for or against a specific candidate or attending events as spectators out of uniform.
But it blocks them from leading or actively participating in those events, publishing partisan political statements outside of a letter to the editor, speaking at any political gathering or soliciting votes.

But a book written about the raid says that it was not him but it was someone else.
