If there is an encyclopedia out there, what Facebook did, putting money ahead of public safety, should be the illustrated example of the definition for corporate mentality.

https://www.wired.com/story/opinion-in-russia-apple-and-google-staff-get-muscled-up-by-the-state/

So when they wouldn’t comply with censorship demands, the Kremlin sent armed men to sit in Google’s Moscow offices for hours. Russian parliament also summoned representatives from both Google's and Apple’s offices to a session on the Navalny app, where they were berated and threatened. The government reportedly named specific Google employees it would prosecute if the company didn’t delete the app, and the same plausibly went for Apple.

Both companies need to pull staff out of Russia.

You're going to need a global reach. There are 340 million users in India, 140 million in Indonesia, 130 million in Brazil. That's a lot of people to convince.

Maybe on Instagram? No, owned by FB. Maybe on TikTok? Owned by China. YouTube?

Easier if FB learns to stop Russian Trolls from poisoning the well. That would help, but they don't seem to know how.

It is a hypothetical. Yes, in theory, it will "go away" if a BILLION people stop using it.

Facebook has to reform; it is not "going away" anytime soon. It's not Sears or KMart.

and to know what and when events are happening in my community. I would HATE to lose it. In my almost 70 years as a member of a family and a community, it has been the best way ever to feel connected and in the loop. I don't want it shut down, although I'm sure something else would spring up in its place.

I'm just grateful for the connection.

you make of it...it has the potential for both. I like Facebook and we have zero chance of shutting it down so maybe we learn to use it for our benefit in politics.

Be sure to do everything possible to stop them from mining your information. That’s where there money comes from. Limit the time you spend on the platform and don’t allow them to follow you or suggest content or advertisement to you.

Just remember if something is “free” you are the product being sold.

to put down - and a lot of the facebook shit is only effective because it follows crap that was established over years of unchallenged repetition - most of it coming from rw and russian think tanks, channeled out of limbaugh's ass, and amplified by a few hundred other lying racist blowhards

if facebook was smart it would uses their AI to monitor rw radio so they could track down the crap a lot easier
