Trump's Sprawling Use of NDAs Now Threatens to Humiliate Him

NEW: For decades Trump has used sprawling NDAs to intimidate employees and associates into silence. But he just lost a case to @OMAROSA that could help bring his political and corporate secrets down on his head. Me & @swin24 @thedailybeast

Trump’s Sprawling Use of NDAs Now Threatens to Humiliate Him
For decades, Donald Trump used the same legal language in Non-Disclosure Agreements to prevent associates from saying anything bad about him. That’s bad news for Trump.

For decades, Donald Trump has treasured non-disclosure and non-disparagement agreements, using them to prevent staff and associates from divulging information about his political and corporate empires. But a recent court judgment has called into question just how iron-clad these agreements really are, potentially exposing Trump to many of the secrets he’s worked to keep private in all facets of his life.

Just last week, the Trump NDA regime suffered its most stinging defeat, with a New York arbitrator ruling against Trump in a case that his campaign had fought for three years.

The case stemmed from a 2018 lawsuit the campaign brought against former White House adviser and The Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault Newman for her tell-all book, Unhinged. In a massive blow to Trump, the arbitrator ruled that the campaign’s NDA was too expansive and vague to enforce, ordering the campaign to reimburse Manigault for three years of legal fees.

The arbitrator, Andrew Brown, said in his decision that the campaign’s NDA went too far by forcing Manigault “to never say anything remotely critical of Mr. Trump, his family or his or his family members’ businesses for the rest of her life.” Brown ruled that “such a burden is certainly unreasonable.”

Fundamentally, Trump cannot sit for a deposition. He can't tell the truth. He would destroy any case his lawyers dreamed up.

Dr. Trump will probably win the case with some kind of settlement. Trump will, of course, try to have an NDA be part of the settlement!

was reading that several (or more) of those people who were sent them just shredded them knowing that the staff and Trump were so disorganized they would never know they had not been signed. Apparently they did not.

While that disorganization and never knowing was funny in this instance it is just another shiver and upset that the people running things paid not one bit of attention to even one of the most important things for that organization to get away with what was going on. Nobody could remember to follow through. Wow. Not really surprising from this standpoint but still, wow.

one of the others was Michael Cohen. I bet Mary T did not sign one either.

Of course we already knew they were terribly disorganized the way they ran the country. Obviously Trump knew nothing about running anything and those around him were given a perfect course to follow (from previous presidents and their staff) but they would not do it. It is no wonder this country is almost gone.

I cannot imagine the mess left for Biden.

This should be a major source for morbid entertainment for a while. Come on people, speak up. Tell us all.

...Why? For one simple reason: When the worst comes out, some will say..."That is enough, I will not be on his side
any more. What is the worst? We don't know yet....but with the failure of Trump's non disclosure clause, we will
find out, if not sooner, then later.

Nothing is going to come of this or any other civil or criminal proceeding. Certainly not while he's alive.

We have seen this happen time and again with this trump since the damned escalator incident (and long before if you live in the NYC area). We all get excited and convinced that THIS time, THIS will take him down.

It won't.

2 impeachments. Multiple sexual abuse allegations. The continuing "audit". God only knows how many civil lawsuits. The system protects and will continue to protect people like him; that's what our legal system does. All of these proceedings will be tied up in the courts LONG after he keels over. Then his idiot children take the reins.

The deplorables don't care.

They WANT their dictator...It means they need to take NO responsibility for the republic.

As long as they can wave their MAGA flags and protect their white male privilege, they are NOT interested in democratic values.
