Between the massive port congestion and infrastructure in the balance, what's being done by his office?

(18,486 posts)He's done several of them. But some folks think the Secretary of Transportation is supposed to give us regular briefings on the progress of ongoing activities and investigations (yes, DOT does investigations), which of course, no Secretary of Transportation is going to do.

(31,798 posts)I'm in Trade Compliance and port congestion is a critical issue for Q4. I really hope he's on this as opposed to doing Press Conferences all the time.

(53,938 posts)Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg brushed off concerns about intraparty feuds delaying congressional passage of President Joe Bidens domestic agenda, including a proposed $1 trillion infrastructure bill, calling it one of the most ambitious things ever done in America and a vital piece of positioning the nation for the future.
Buttigiegs remarks came Sunday during an interview with The Nevada Independents editor, Jon Ralston, as part of IndyFest, an annual conference exploring political and policy issues affecting the Silver State. The cabinet secretarys appearance occurred several days after House Democrats postponed a vote on the massive bill because of disagreements among moderate and progressive members of their own party.
Something that is of course incredibly complex has a lot of pieces to it, Buttigieg said. And for that reason, it shouldnt be surprising that theres going to be some procedural complexities, too, but weve got to get it done.
The Senate passed the infrastructure package with a 69-30 vote in early August, but it has run into difficulties in the House, where progressive Democrats have been holding out support while they push for action on a proposed $3.5 trillion package that would address climate change and bolster social safety nets.

Of course, the RW has opined....
The Kootenai County GOP in Idaho has endorsed David J. Reilly for a school board candidate position in the city of Post Falls. Despite pledging not to send his daughter to the school district or any public school, he says hell do all in my power to make sure Kootenai County remains a place where families can raise Godly, conservative, patriotic children.
The GOPs endorsement comes despite the fact that Reilly has made several anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks, both on social media and as a writer and digital content creator. That includes his claim that out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten, are planning to start dabbling in human trafficking because they sought to become parents.
Reilly made the statement in a 2020 tweet sharing an article by LGBTQ Nation in 2019 that reported the couples intent to become parents. Now, they are.
For years, anti-LGBTQ people and Republicans shamelessly attacked the couple for not having children before. Now that they are parents, many of those same people have wasted no time attacking the couple for being parents.

(You've got a great sense of humor! Thank you using humor and laughter as a way to call-out these shitty backhanded swipes and other posts the denigrate Joe Biden, his cabinet, and other stalwart Democratic leaders.)

(5,376 posts)But to niche their own....
(^^^^^^ "niche" get it? "niche", as in "niche humor" aka stuff only the cool kids get in middle school...)
I try, I really try to stay current and keep up with all the interweb tropes and memes, but, see, I just dated myself by trying to be humorous using the worn out "interweb" meme ironically. Attempting to use the term "interweb" ironically is itself a worn-out internet meme.
yeah... and my "too on the nose" niche humor thing trying to be sarcastic about being sarcastic was hamfisted too...
Crap, i just played the worn-out "let's go all meta with this to be ironically hip" meme.
Sigh. It sucks getting old.

"Get it?"
OMG I am having PTSD flashbacks to the middle school lunchroom when the "cool kids" used to try to trick us "band kids" into saying that we were "lame". Our puzzled faces and indecision amused the cools kids to no end!
But seriously, sort of, having to explain how funny it is that some people didn't realize how funny the joke was then makes it even funnier is, well, quite the iterative rabbit hole...
But to "niche" their own!
