which has been a hotbed of anti-mask, anti-vax activity since May.

The protesters are (ostensibly) teachers and DOE employees.

Here's video of the clapping/hand shaking on the courthouse steps. It appears that one was clapping and a few shook hands when a protester approached them with an outstretched arm. One cop looks away and refuses to engage.

...coming in to stir up trouble. My son and daughter-in-law live very near there, and they're telling me they've seen almost no anti-vax activity. Everyone they see on the street are wearing masks, and most New Yorkers are vaccinated or claim to be.

The area where this took place is Union Square near the 14th Street Farmer's Market. A lot of vendors come in from outside the city to sell their produce - mainly fruits and veggies, some baked goods - to the city folk. If anything, it's the outsiders who resent having to wear masks and get tested for Covid. The Manhattan residents have been through HELL for the last 18 months, and they fully support the strongest measures to prevent new infections.
