Should the Select Committee subpoena Donald Trump?

Why not?

Let the courts decide if he has to respond to a subpoena. There is little doubt but that he would fight it every inch of the way. But, let him. Make the courts make the decision. We will find out once and for all if "no one is above the law".

If nothing else, it would keep him busy.

But first the case of his treason, and the wholesale Republican betrayal of the USA, must be fully built. He will go down hard. As he deserves.

First they should get the documents and interview anyone who was involved with him. This gives the congress people the best info for questions. Already there is a lot including the videos we saw on January 6. Not to mention his tweets.

But they are subpoenaing everyone to find out what Trump knew? Pence is a joke. It would be best to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

And no matter how long the legal process may take, he could still be acquitted by a jury trial.

Does anyone think he would have been convicted in his impeachments, if only they had more documentation and evidence?

The problem is that the country is under attack. Am I being too paranoid? In my opinion, we are in a constitutional crisis.

The longer it might take to gather more evidence, the more danger our democracy is in.

I have trouble envisioning any possible positive reward for the Committee considering tRump's life-long record with depositions and public statements - that is, he always manages to deceive, distort and deflect any responsibility away from himself. Essentially, he would say "all I did was give a speech at a public rally and then go home".

The potential risks are...
* the national and international press with their thirst for sensationalism would cover such an event 24/7 for days, thereby putting TFG back in the spotlight with free press time.
* the right-wing public and social media machine would spin the event into a massive pity pot campaign event, showing it as revenge and punishment against their dear god-figure leader.Their spin programming would go on for at least a month.
* I strongly suspect the MAGA crowd along with the accompanying press hoard would create a huge public problem with a mass protest during such an event - something our fight against COVID and Washington, DC does not need. Violence would almost be guaranteed.

Could this be achieved through a closed sworn deposition, perhaps before a federal judge? Testimony could be released to the public, forcing MAGATs to READ something.
