Trump allies did little to investigate election fraud claims, court documents show

Some of the loudest promoters of Trump's bogus election fraud lies had to sit for depositions this summer, where they were grilled on how much they vetted allegations about a Dominion exe before repeating them publicly. Turns out, not much vetting at all!

The bogus claims about Coomer were put in front of a national audience during the infamous November 19 press conference at the Republican National Committee headquarters, where Giuliani, Powell and other lawyers aligned with Trump threw out unhinged allegations about fraud in the 2020 election, while laying out their plans to challenge the results in court.

Powell made a claim Coomer had been "recorded in a conversation with antifa members, saying that he had the election rigged for Mr. Biden." (She admitted in her deposition for the case that there is no such recording.)

Giuliani called Coomer "a vicious, vicious man" with antifa ties, who "specifically" said "that they're gonna fix this election."

In an August deposition that was filed in court last month, Giuliani estimated that he spent less than an hour reviewing the claims against Coomer before repeating the allegations, saying he may have spent as little as a few minutes here and there.

Actually finding and preventing fraud wasn't their purpose.

If they had actually looked into possible fraud they would have found none. That's not what they wanted.

The ones where words drop out of the calls...

They repeat: "We're gonna...get voters...and...fix this....election."
The real statement: "We're gonna make sure that we get voters to the polls, and fix this trend of non-voting groups in this election."

The whole Republican Party appeal is based on myths. It is story-telling, a narrative that simple folk can follow and become invested in.

Democrats would be wise to adopt their own story-telling, based on fact, of course. That is how to reach people who's eyes glaze over when you talk about policy. You need characters, conflicts and drama to sell a story.

about a stolen election were just lies. In fact, they were so convinced that Biden won legitimately, they didn't even bother investing any time to verify info that would have helped their case immensely if it turned out to be true.
