Last week, Donald Trump announced the exile of his confidant and former top campaign aide Corey Lewandowski, with advisers banishing him from leading a major pro-Trump super PAC, following sexual misconduct allegations against the loyalist from a big GOP donor.

But Lewandowski, initially, wouldn’t go, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.

What followed, the sources described, was what amounted to stages of denial and bargaining before ultimately being abandoned by the world he claimed to dominate.

Lewandowski, at first privately and then publicly through a lawyer, denied the details of the alleged incident. When that didn’t work, he resisted leaving. Lewandowski then subsequently settled on pitching Trumpworld a not-so-modest proposal: in exchange for his resignation, the super PAC and the pro-Trump team would pay him a large sum of money to go away. Two of the knowledgeable sources said the former 2016 Trump campaign manager’s demand was for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Lewandowski ran Trump’s campaign from when Trump announced his candidacy to May 2016, then remained part of the team until late June 2016. Here’s just some of what happened during that stretch:

* Michael Cohen and Felix Sater spent from December 2015 to June 2016 working toward Trump Tower Moscow, a project that involved contacts with high-ranking Russian government officials.

* In April, George Papadopoulos learned that Russia had stolen and planned to publish emails from Trump’s political opponents—making him the first known American to learn of Russia’s plan.

* Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates shared internal polling data and campaign strategy with a suspected Russian spy on the understanding that he would pass the information along to Kremlin-linked oligarchs.

* Carter Page got approval from the campaign to travel to Moscow, where he spoke to multiple Russian government officials about his involvement in the Trump campaign.

Boasting that he had killed people, boasting that he could order people to be killed. Manhandling her in a crowded room, stalking her, doing everything but say the words: “I’m gonna rape you tonight.” Her description of her evening there is hair-raising.

WTF were the organizers even thinking? She was invited belatedly, deliberately placed between a pair of men who immediately advertised their loathsomeness by boasting about their penises, calling each other “cheese dick” (which had to be explained to me & literally nauseates me).

Corey Lewandowski is a psycho. The fact that he keeps floating to the top in GOP political fundraising over and over says a lot about the GOP, none of it good. May he just go drink himself into the gutter.
