Will NOT be held accountable for their contempt of Congress. If they dont comply with the requests of Thompsons committee, should be in jail.

(718 posts)I am not making anything up. Based on how things usually go, I can see this happening. I do not appreciate your assertion that I made this up.

(9,998 posts)There's only so much President Biden can do. I never said it was his fault this country is a failure.
I have my own life to live. I unfortunately do not have time to fix this country. That's the job of our elected officials.
I know when I fuck up, I'm held accountable. This country doesn't do accountability though, which is why NOTHING will happen to these criminals.

Yes, it would be nice if we could just throw them in jail. I will go with what Congressman Schiff said which was there will be consequences. We have to follow the rule of law, even if they dont!

(35,454 posts)haven't we had enough of this type of 'speculation'. I believe the Dems when they say they are going to hold them accountable.

(718 posts)in regards to bringing these criminals to justice. Plus a nagging feeling that ultimately they will do as they always do, get by on a technicality when guys like Bannon are truly dangerous, even more so than Trump. If a congressional committee can subpoena FORMER officials of a FORMER administration and see them ignored without penalty, we basically have no functional legal system. Executive privilege should not apply after the fact especially when the information sought could determine if an organized attempt was afoot to overthrow the government.

(35,454 posts)U understand the anger and frustration regarding people being held accountable for the last four years. But that isn't now and the Dems in charge have said they will pursue these people and are not willing to put up with their criminal activities. So casting doubt upon them and their integrity has no value and does not help.

(15,147 posts)There's no chance at all of accountability if Congress doesn't at least sound forceful about their subpoenas.
But sounding forceful is merely necessary, without being sufficient, and only raises the odds of true accountability slightly.
Boydog
(718 posts)both houses of Congress and the executive branch but are powerless to utilize control of two of the three branches of government to subpoena witnesses and gather information regarding an insurrection? We are being laughed at by Trump and those who worked for him.

Thank God they had the balls to do their job. I highly respect 95 percent of democratic members of Congress and those who serve in the Biden administration. However, some need to grow a set and be resolute for whats right. As badly as I hate to say this, it may include our attorney general.
Do you think Chairman Thompson is lying and fobbing us off/

so much as aspirational.
If the choice is between no chance of getting cooperation (or consequences for a lack thereof), and a small chance by trying to sound tough, I guess you go with the small chance and hope luck makes what you say not a lie in the end.
