Top Trump aides set to defy subpoenas in Capitol... - yesterdays news, todays reality

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Spazito because it wasn't considered real "news" well guess what!
On Spazito's advice I am reposting this in the General Discussion section - my thanks to all who initially responded to this but the original thread is now lost to obscurity because someone decided this wasn't real news.

Source: The Guardian

Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and other top aides subpoenaed by the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack are expected to defy orders for documents and testimony related to 6 January, according to a source familiar with the matter.

All four Trump aides targeted by the select committee – Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, strategist Steve Bannon and defense department aide Kash Patel – are expected to resist the orders because Trump is preparing to direct them to do so, the source said.

Go bold and use Congress’ own “inherent contempt” authorities, which though very old, are still perfectly legal. Lock the seditionists up and then place the burden of appeals on the seditionists to see if they can argue against being locked up. All the other options, including criminal referrals to DOJ, will take an eternity to accomplish. The “inherent contempt” option is the only one that places the burden of appeals on the seditionists.

We all knew this was going to happen. If anyone wasn't preparing for this, shame on them and a big effing DUH.
