The youngest person who spoke in favor of masks at Wednesday night's school board meeting in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, decided she wasn't going to let anti-maskers steal her thunder.
Before 10-year-old Kaylan Park stepped up to the microphone at the contentious meeting, she had watched other pro-mask speakers get interrupted by heckles and boos from people who oppose the district's mask mandate. A couple of those opponents ended up walking out of the meeting in anger.
Critics were protesting the district's decision earlier this month to extend its mask mandate until at least Oct. 29 to protect students and staff against COVID-19.
But Kaylan, a fifth-grader, didn't let the tense environment intimidate her.
"It is super weird to be here because adults don't think that their children should wear masks," Kaylan said when it was her turn to speak. "
A lot of you guys are adults. You guys should be able to know that masks save lives."

(12,541 posts)doesn't make you right. It makes you rude, uncivilized and primitive. That the morons want to die as martyrs for Trump is OK. That they want to drag others into the grave with them should piss off normal Americans.

(40 posts)When people grow up they should act like adults and one of the traits of acting like an adult is coping with other people. That means no booing ,heckling ,interrupting and so forth. Lets act like adults and show an example to our children. Grow up and start coping. Go Bidden. Fuck maga chuds---- just a bucket full of dicks and shit. They don't know the meaning of being a responsible adult and COPING.

(9,988 posts)They never, ever listen to the children. It's all about their "rights" to keep their children ignorant. But children don't want to be ignorant. They want to learn. They want to meet people from backgrounds different from theirs, and learn about points of view that are different from their parents. As they should. This is healthy.
All respect to Kaylan. It's terrifying for a child to speak up to adults, but it's often needed. Kudos to Kaylan's parents for raising her to be brave and honest and not afraid to stand up to adults.
