Why do some people in Florida want the virus to spread and the pandemic to continue?

When I saw MSNBC this AM they were talking about the C-19 case #s dropping in the state
so some school districts are now going to drop the mask mandates. Another 1 or 2 months
of having mask mandates could be a big help in controlling* this disease and not giving the
virus new hosts where they might mutate into a new strains and then the whole cycle might
start again.

* Sadly thanx to the anti mask, anti science, anti vaccine idiots, and just basic biology I think we
have lost the chance "to put this thing" behind us and we will be living and sometimes dying from
this virus for a very long time.

What should have been a public health/medical science problem has become a political
football. I will always remember @ some right wing convention people cheered because
President Biden was only @ 67% vaccination rate instead of the 70% he wanted by July 4.

Florida doesn’t have a mask mandate and there are just a handful of school districts that have been trying. Schools haven’t been a particularly large factor in overall Covid cases anyway, so a few school districts (about ten percent of them?) aren’t likely to influence the statewide numbers that significantly.

What appears to be happening is that enough unvaccinated people caught delta that they’ve effectively increased the vaccination rate (for however long natural immunity lasts).

Or perhaps it’s just the normal ebb and flow of any other virus. A peak followed by a decline isn’t necessarily related to government policy.

As long as the rest of the country was sane, I'd be ok with national laws protecting us. But it's not the case, a good fraction of the country has gone totally off the rails and it's not just here. Think I read where there are 18 governors who have signed total mask mandate bans, thats far greater than just Death Sentence. Now Death Sentence is horrificly bad, unremittingly awful, it is true. But Noemi, Abbott & Kemp are just as bad and that's just listing a few of the Repug Death Machine Governors.

Despite Mississippi having some of the strictest school vaccination mandates in the nation
he can say with a straight face that getting a C-19 vaccination is different from the one
the children get for measles.

Whatever the number, 18, 38, it's too many people dying because repugs don't care if they cause death, it's their straight white male privilege in action. Sorry to say, there are some stupid rw women too, but it's still mainly the males pushing these murder/suicide lies.

Doesn't seem to matter that the deaths are a direct result of opposition to Biden's policies (cheerled by people vaxxed themselves, no less).

It went back in forth in the courts but I thought the most recent ruling in September was that it stood?

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/09/10/us/florida-desantis-schools-mask-mandate/index.html

I think Florida's low numbers are a result of fraud & manipulation rather than a mask policy, since besides small pockets of liberal sanity and resistance, they clearly don't have one.

It seems like a stretch to me to claim that based on a handful of schools implementing mask mandates against an executive order constitutes a statewide pro-mask policy. As far as I can tell that mid-September decision was the final legal word.

The truth of Florida's low numbers, given that they have denied science, is likely simple fraud.

This virus will NEVER be behind us. We had the opportunity to put it behind us, get it under control, but like is typical with this country, we Fucked that chance up, and now it's going to be around and in wide circulation, Forever. Pop up here, pop up there, but omnipresent.

feed by republicans pushing disinformation on vaccines and masks. We're descending into a dystopia. If the republicans take back the Congressional majorities in the mid-terms we're that much closer to it.

every time we start to get back on track we let our guard down. this is like a fire, you have to squelch the whole thing and if you walk away from one smoldering ember it can restart the entire blaze. I'm so sick of dealing with this damn thing I can't even tell you. I'm vaccinated and feel safe enough on my own to do more things like go to a baseball game, but I can't justify it with a disabled spouse, elderly parents... There will be a time for me to enjoy those things, but not yet...

... the World in America but thanx to Fox, Facebook, Russian Disinformation, some really
sick and very Machiavellian Republicans, and Christian Evangelical turd buckets the disease
has been purposely spread. When people like Rachel Wolinsky, Dr. Mike (Osterholm), Dr.
Doom (Irwin Redlener), David Kennedy, and Dr. Fauci speak we all should listen but no we
have assholes who read QAnon/Russian produced crap Facebook and then take stuff made
for intestinal parasites in horses and think they are fighting for their "Free Dumbs" because
masks are for sheep and vaccines will change their DNA.

As far as I am concerned is if you decided not to take the vaccine and you get the disease
you get zero medical care outside of a cot in a wall tent, palliative treatments, and all the
pain killers you want. And no O2 too.
