holy fucking shit, the real culprits in all of this are the producers of The Apprentice, who took a bankrupt imbecile with no impulse control and the attention span of a coked-up squirrel and peddled him to millions of gullible dopes as ThE sMaRtEsT bUsInEsSmAn In ThE uNiVeRsE

(17,173 posts)Wouldst that he'd just stranded tfg on an island, whining about the sun, the brackish water, and the lack of Big Macs and Diet Coke.
The others would have beaten him to a pulp and buried what was left in an unmarked grave before the second episode.

(4,092 posts)Cannot tell the difference between real life and a TV show. They lapped that apprentice crap up like thirsty dog to water. If you watch one of trump's rallies, he is just pandering to the mob.

(5,113 posts)Is the fact that actors who have played villains are actually accosted on the street because these people think that they are that villain! Then, they put the guy playing the hero on a pedestal with no idea what that person is really like (think 'Cosby'). After almost 65 years of television, there are people out there who still cannot tell the difference. And, this is after attending what some tout as 'the greatest education system in the world'. (Groan.) But, they are not a 'danger' and are not placed where they could get help for their delusion. Hell, some of them even get elected to public office!

I caught five minutes of that show while waiting in line at a fast food joint and it literally made me feel sick that bullying was offered as entertainment, and that MILLIONS of people enjoyed it

(36,747 posts)Sometimes swearing can be appropriate, even excessive swearing. I quit watching one movie (40 year old virgin, I think), due to excessive swearing. In the movie Wolf of Wall Street, the swearing actually fit and was appropriate.

(1,000 posts)listen to George Carlin's "7 Words You Can't Say On TV." Words only have the value we assign to them. As someone who grew up "Christian fundamentalist" I have never stopped being appalled by the ignorance, cruelty, and depravity committed by people who would never let a "dirty word" cross their lips. What a society, half this nation can turn a blind eye to actual profantiy, but God forbid a "naughty" word pass their lips. It is a personal choice, all I can say is I might utter profanity, I DON'T commit it, and I don't have ulcers.

(55,007 posts)FYI there is a block-by-key-word function. you can enter all the swear words that you find offensive and you will never see them again.
orleans
(34,045 posts)where is the function or the blocking ability? i know you can block posters--don't remember how--but words? wowza!

(16,357 posts)But I have a question about this part: "When you auto-trash by keyword, threads which contain that keyword in their titles will be removed from your view when browsing the site."
Looks like all you can do is block threads that have certain words in the title. So if the cussing is in the body of the post, you'll still see it, right?
I gather that there are people who would enjoy browsing the forums more if they didn't have to see certain words in the lists of thread titles, so I can see where it could have utility for some.
I'm glad that I'm pretty much immune to naughty language, because I feel like it makes life easier. But it's interesting to know features exist that I wasn't aware of.

(55,007 posts)and like ignore, I think, if you get to a thread via a link rather from the main pages you may still see people or subjects you don't want but it is a tool that can still be helpful for those who might need it.
