Mason City Council will be voting on an ordinance that is set to outlaw abortion and declare Mason a sanctuary for the unborn.
According to the meeting agenda, Ordinance 2021-108 will be discussed Monday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. during council's bi-monthly meeting. Council says they will be voting on the abortion ban, whether or not to declare it an emergency and making various provisions and findings, providing for severability and establishing an effective date.
United We Stand Cincinnati has organized a "Help Stop Mason City Council Abortion Ban" protest outside of the Mason City Council building starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Facebook event. The event posting says, "Our Mayor helped write the legislation in Lebanon back in May. This will criminalize anyone assisting others including education, financially, medically treating, or through transportation in seeking an abortion. This also criminalizes anyone for possessing 'abortion' medication often used post-miscarriage or even to treat stomach ulcers."
After the U.S. Supreme Court took no action and allowed a Texas abortion ban to go into effect, many in Southwestern Ohio were concerned something similar could happen here and it seems it has.
In neighboring Lebanon, their city council passed a similar ordinance in May, which the ACLU of Ohio said is blatantly unconstitutional and ripe for legal challenge.
Mason is most famous for being the home of the Kings Island Theme Park. Mason currently has no women's health clinics that perform abortions. Lebanon voted earlier this year to make them an abortion free sanctuary city. This occurred before the draconian tattle tale abortion law in Texas. I can't find info but I've heard it has adversely hit businesses in Lebanon.

It went heavy for Trump both times.
Solid Rock Church just up the freeway is one of those megachurches that basically preach God is Republican. God is wealth. There are multiples of this kind of church in the area. They had a giant "touchdown" Jesus out by the freeway that got blown up with a direct lightning hit. The church not only filed an insurance claim but also fleeced the faithful for millions to rebuild. Now they have what everyone calls footlong Jesus.
I love the fact an act of God took it down.

(24,274 posts)of elected officials whose sole mission is to pass ridiculously unconstitutional laws just to funnel taxpayer money to attorneys who will fail at defending such laws, but will make a fortune (after kickbacks to said politicians) dragging it through as many appeals for as long as possible. Someone needs to investigate whatever connections there are between these lawyers and the politicians shoveling this money at them.

It isn't over though. It will be taken up at the next Mason Council Meeting in two weeks.
