In his upcoming book Midnight in Washington, Schiff reportedly wrote that although he sent Mueller a handwritten note asking him to testify in July 2019, he found it heartbreaking when the then-special counsel declined or deflected dozens of questions.
Had I known how much he had changed, I would not have pursued his testimony with such vigor in fact, I would not have pursued it at all, Schiff wrote, according to CNN.
Schiff has given a few interviews in recent days expanding on that regret, including last night. Pressed on that revelation in his book during an interview with MSNBCs Rachel Maddow, Schiff detailed his regrets on requesting Muellers testimony when Maddow asked if he thinks someone else should have testified or led the Russia probe.

(13,776 posts)It's really unfortunate that his limitations--which were only natural after a lifetime of extremely hard work--made the investigation kind of toothless, since he didn't have the ability to publicly refute Bill Barr's lies when the report was released and go "the hell I said that." And his appearance at the hearings was such a letdown.
But I think he did his best and really tried to give his absolute all for the country and Constitution that he loves.

(86,061 posts)I saw two interviews and he never said anything more than he did in this one.
I suspect it's a health condition like Parkinson's maybe? He certainly wasn't what we all anticipated during that testimony given his record of past investigations.

(82,849 posts)Mueller drew his own line in the sand as far as his investigation went, and he wouldn't cross it for anything. Even when the evidence he developed pointed to criminal wrongdoing, he refused to go any further than a recitation of his findings, always thoroughly hedged by cautionary statements that his office wasn't drawing any conclusions about what they were finding.

(32,626 posts)Regardless of the self-imposed restraints Mueller put on his testimony before Congress, the report had a lot of information in it. The redactions made to prevent the American people from reading a government report never intended to be secret, leaves a lot of questions. As does every investigation ever done by the the United States government pertaining to itself.

(6,341 posts)He set limits in order to NOT go down that cluster fuck. But didn't realize, it was a cluster fuck he needed to investigate.
In the end, he did say Russia did its best to influence the election....but didn't go further to find out if it was invited and by whom.
