Just about to leave on my first post-COVID flight...

...to visit family in Ohio.

Unlike millions of other Americans, I've not had any situation yet where I needed to be masked for more than about an hour. This will be my first experience with 7-8 hours of it.

I'm bringing three masks, because even after an hour my mask can start to feel a bit sweaty, so I think I'm going to want to cycle through them.

COVID numbers aren't too bad where I live in NH. Ohio is another matter. Fortunately my family is smart masking and vaccination, so I shouldn't have to have too many close dealings with covid-iots.

2. Flying wasn't bad

I’ve flown this year and felt pretty safe because masking was enforced. Probably safer than going to my local grocery store where hardly anyone masks.

I do have a friend who caught a breakthrough infection on an Ethiopian Air flight that featured a bunch of maskholes from a “Christian” youth ministry.

6. I flew in June, and the seats were spaced out, so nobody sat next to another person. All masked.

It wasn't too bad... I think the airport itself is a place you need to be careful... in the restroom, etc... wash hands, etc.

Have a nice trip!

I'm planning to go to Phoenix in December to visit my aunt and go to a Cardinals game, and I've got two trips to Vegas planned early next year. Flying isn't bad as long as you put up with the idiots and exercise all precautions.

Baltimore to Seattle and back. No problems. This was on Alaska Airlines.

5. You had COVID? Are you fully recovered? I haven't had to have mask on any longer

than a run through Costco. Maybe 50 minutes at the most. I plan to keep it that way. If I really need a mask, I shouldn't be there, unless it's an emergency or food. It's easy for me though, being single and retired.

My younger sister who I'll be seeing caught it pre-vaccine. She's a teacher and had a lot of students with terrible mask discipline. She's all recovered now. She didn't need to be hospitalized or anything too serious, but she definitely didn't just shrug off the experience either.

And he has to go back again next week. Both trips one week long.

He’s fully vaxxed, of course. Still I worry.

He told me last month when he got home from Texas that he saw more masked people there than he sees in Ohio (in Ohio it’s usually about 1/4 of any crowd in masks if you’re lucky)

8. Bad news: it isn't a post-Covid flight.

It is a DURING-Covid flight.

What you'll experience near the end is ear soreness from the mask straps. It sucks. Masks suck.

I have to wear them at work, and I'm so tired of it, and so angry at Antivaxxers, I could smash things.

I took a relatively short flight in August. It was only about an hour so it wasn’t bad at all.

Like you, I hadn’t worn a mask for long periods at all. I used kn95 masks. It wasn’t horrible.

Unlikely in my caregiver situation though. Looks like I'm permanently stuck.

Before flight, said the mask wasn't a problem the tiny amount of space on seats was more of a problem. He had a stop over with change of planes, his first flight was a few hours in a tiny plane with small seats. He hated the flight. Said seat's didn't move recline at all.

Second flight better.

I often would end up with the asshole in front of me bruising my knees. One more reason I don't fly if I can avoid it.
