Interesting
What was said repeatedly
Democrats dont reach out enough
Republicans do a better job of that
One woman annoyed me-said she voted for trump because of values, freedom of speech, less govt, make America great again, old values

(34,438 posts)Definitely suggests action steps for Dems.
Crosss staff did a good job of selecting a diverse group of participants. Lots of different backgrounds and opinions.
Me.
(35,454 posts)in 2012 they said they weren't being courted enough by Obama. I don't understand when Dems make life better for them yet many Latino men voted for TFG.

(15,769 posts)there should be a lot more attention to them. They have to a tough road.

(13,964 posts)we must do a better job at communicating our values to the Latino community. In South Florida, the Hispanic media was inundated with Republican ads and the neighborhoods by Republican door knockers. Outreach works and we need to do better.

(5,123 posts)saying outreach is lacking even in some black communities. I thought one of the smartest strategies for dems in 2020 was their Barbershop talks in black communities.
Black barbershops are notorious for being community gathering spots where people discuss a variety of things. Hence the popularity of Ice Cubes Barbershop movies.
Although black men overall vote for Democrats, still far too many do not vote. They dont think things will change no matter who wins. Ive always thought that black men are truly the forgotten man. Not the angry bigoted working white class men
that the media keeps chasing.
The barbershop outreach was a fantastic example of community outreach.

(7,771 posts)...to rationalize what are usually emotional decisions.
What does "reach out" even mean.
No party has ever "reached out" to me and I've been around a long time.
When you hear people regurgitate branding memes you know they are victims of propaganda, not coherent rational thought.

(46,700 posts)You'll have to turn it around by showing evidence of their hypocrisy. Don't fall for the slogans. They don't back it up.
The greatest difference between Latino Americans and Republicans, is that they understand their duty to the poor. Don't let the Republicans change that.

(5,123 posts)They were not all Republicans.
From the annoying trumper lady who claimed she voted for trump because she wanted govt to stay out of peoples lives, but gave an incoherent answer on the govts role in a womans right to choose. To the young Afro Latino man who identified as independent, but was clear that he was not in favor of MAGA and more interested in moving the country forward. To the young lady that spoke about homophobia amongst some Latino men, which lead them to vote Republican.
I found the entire program quite interesting.
I found great hope that it was the younger folks that seemed to be on the progressive side, even the guy that identified as an independent.
The folks like the trumper lady. Will stay trumper. But for others, they may be convinced to vote Democrat if we have more directed messaging.

(46,700 posts)empathy that you find in Latin America, that you don't see in the USA among the Republicans. Not so sure it would work with Cuban Americans, but I'm pretty sure it would connect with every other latin American country.

(7,862 posts)As I said before, it wasn't Biden that benefited from the pandemic -- it was TRUMP. Due to the pandemic, normal Democratic outreach couldn't be done in-person, and apparently a lot of Hispanics are big on that. We shouldn't have that problem going forward, though.
Also, completely anecdotal, but I did phone banking for Democrats in Florida for last year's elections and the VAST majority of people I called were Hispanics and they weren't exactly receptive to the outreach that I was trying to provide them. I remember about two people (out of maybe 75 calls?) were receptive: one was a nice young mother that asked for more information and did plan to vote, and the other was apparently a quite comical convicted felon that couldn't vote, but he was nice and I told him that Democrats in Florida were trying to restore voting rights for people such as him that had served his team and been on the up-and-up since.
