Powell was fully vaccinated, his family said. However, Powell had previously been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that weakens the body’s ability to fight infections, CNBC reported.

Prostate cancer in 2003 and

Powell had multiple myeloma, a cancer of a type of white blood cell. It’s unclear what complications he experienced from Covid-19 or when he tested positive for the disease. The family also did not say when he was vaccinated or if he had received a booster shot.

the effectiveness at eliminating death as an outcome is 92%, based on newly released CDC statistics. So don't count on it. Your vaccination is not the magic shield you have been led to believe it is. You still need to combine it with masking, social distancing, and avoiding large indoor gatherings.

That said, Colin Powell was living with at least 2, maybe 3 cancers, one of which had a direct impact on his immune response. So it is likely his body did not launch a sufficient response to build full immunity from the vaccine.

11. Effectiveness is always measured against unvaccinated population.

The new CDC data is that for every 11 COVID deaths in the unvaccinated population, there is one death in the vaccinated population. That makes the vaccine 92% effective in preventing deaths.
