Amazon to Open Huge New Distribution Center in Minnesota

Amazon is paying workers, starting at about $17/hour at its other Minnesota distribution centers, and now is planning another large one in Woodbury, MN. That's right next to St. Paul, which has a ready pool of people to hire.

Those aren't fantastic jobs. They're warehousing, packaging, and shipping jobs, for the most part. Hard work, but Amazon is setting its pay scale to attract willing employees. They're not having much of a problem finding workers, either, since few small businesses in the area offer that kind of wage for what is relatively unskilled work.

I suggest that other employers in the Twin Cities area stop complaining about a worker shortage and kick up their wages to match Amazon's. I suspect they'd find plenty of people ready to apply for their jobs if they did.

It's trendy to attack Amazon, but that company is doing what it needs to do to find workers. Pay adequately, offer health insurance, and other benefits. All the things other businesses don't think they can afford to offer. Guess what? Amazon will take your disgruntled workers.

Wake up, US Businesses!
