Nick Rolovich out as Washington State football coach after refusing state-mandated COVID-19 vaccine, source says
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Nick Rolovich is out as the Washington State football coach after refusing to become vaccinated for COVID-19, a requirement for all state employees, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Monday was the deadline for state employees to become fully vaccinated or receive an approved medical or religious exemption as part of a state mandate that was announced in August. Rolovich was seeking a religious exemption, but it is not yet clear how the university committee assigned to evaluate religious exemptions ruled.
Defensive coordinator Jake Dickert is expected to be named the team's interim coach, the source said.
Rolovich was hired in January 2020 after a four-year stint as the head coach at Hawaii, where he compiled a 28-27 record.

I went to Washington State. Not sorry to see him gone. Last summer he said he'd comply with the mandate and then didn't trying for a religious exemption.
He expects others to follow his rules, but won't follow others
I have read there are several assistants on his staff that are unvaccinated

The University will likely not agree since his assistants are all on one year contracts
Why keep paying someone you're likely to sack at the end of the season?

(24,329 posts)Several other unvaccinated WSU assistants were let go as well, per a Twitter report from the Oregonian. Its unclear who among the assistants has been fired.
WSU held a defensive walkthrough Monday evening at Rogers Field. Dickert was joined by safeties coach Mark Banker and edges coach A.J. Cooper.
Absent assistants included Ricky Logo (defensive tackles) and John Richardson (cornerbacks), both of whom wore masks during practices and games throughout the season.
Co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Craig Stutzmann and offensive line coach Mark Weber were seen departing the Cougars football complex and walking toward the parking lot. Both assistants also had been wearing masks throughout the year.
