Never has my catch phrase been more relevant then when I hear of the things coming out of these negotiations with Sinema and Manchin:
"Compromise is great as long as you are not the one being compromised."

(5,555 posts)Not to mention possible entanglements in the House given our margin is razor thin at all.
Passing anything at all is a victory for us right now.
ultimately we're bluffing with a weak hand if we try to play hardball; Manchin has pocket aces, we have the three of diamonds and a soggy beer coaster. We need him far more than he needs us.

(31,109 posts)ANY dem is better than ANY con and in the cases where they are not it is still mandatory you vote for the dem due to NUMBERS, many folks forget the party with ONE more seat than the other decides EVERYTHING...
Of course compromise is the only way to get things done politically but having to do it within our own party for BASIC democratic principles is MADDENING!
And when said compromise results in NOT protecting the environment while we are in the LAST DAYS of survival from global warming, is, well, INSANE!
Just pretend for a minute that you are not a member of a country or a political party but informed enough to know that we're in the last days of survival of climate change and that if we all could do that for just one day one vote we might save humanity!
But because an ENTIRE political party GOP and only TWO of our party, we are fucked. The entire GOP is guilty of ending life on earth.

(50,949 posts)this is a dire situation, and that our hands are being tied by two morons.
I personally think it is long past time for some serious arm twisting of those two Senators. I personally think they need to be brought to heel, and because of the stakes you name, it should be done by whatever means will work.
I feel certain we could dig up some effective kompromat on both of them. But, much to my grief, that is not what will happen.
And we are where we are. And we can do only what we can do.

(8,696 posts)In and of itself, its the thoughtless disregard to those being left on the cutting room floor.
My point being that those being compromised in these negotiations are real people and the problems of climate change or hunger or housing are not going away just because they decided to ignore them.
