(5,148 posts)If you unplug it you can remove the couple screws on the vent and get that fan clean then plug it in and see if it works.

(57,063 posts)... low temps in your oven. Eggs will do OK at room temperature for at least a week. Butter doesn't need to be kept refrigerated. You can get thru this.

(10,132 posts)If it's a Samsung, this may be a "feature": it got its water circulation ducts frozen due to a poor design and this caused it to basically shut down. I no longer have a Samsung, and gods willing, won't again.

Goldstar had such poor quality they were practically shunned in the US, so it changed names to LG.
But, there are scores of YouTube videos on how new refrigerators are failing after a couple of years and thy way they are made makes them non-serviceable or nearly as much to repair as a new unit. This is why people should view used refrigerators with caution as you might be buying something with a hidden problem. Some won't hold temperature, others have chronic dripping issues, other leak refrigerant, others have failing logic cards.
This isn't just one or two brands, but series of model lines with many manufacturers. It is so prevalent that you need to research each model separately.

On the plus side, he always had plenty of work...
I would never buy any Samsung appliances again. We redid the kitchen in Samsung as part of the reno, they had great reviews at the time, 5 years ago. We had troubles with the refrig from day one and it took forever to get them here, then the part took forever, when it was installed, it went bad very quickly. On and on this went for years only expanding to trouble with the microwave and stove. After 3 years of fighting with them, we gave up, sold what we had & replaced everything with products from a different mfg.

(30,613 posts)Removed the pathetic "beer can pull-tab" that was supposed to conduct heat into the drain and prevent freezing. I replaced it with a long very heavy gauge wire down into the drain.

(54,770 posts)Ive found solutions to many problems. As example, had a microwave shorted out. Video said put a business card between two wires. It worked.
Good luck.

(1,879 posts)However, to save the fridge overall the helpline will probably tell you to unplug it, and plug it back in about 20 minutes to an hour later to see if it resets itself.

Sorry this has happened to you - what a waste and cost of the lost food is indeed awful.

(523 posts)once for 12 hours, once for 5. On both occasions it started working again.
I left the doors closed and didn't lose too much (only threw out a few things that were a bit iffy but probably still could have eaten them).
I spoke to a repair guy who said it will start working properly more quickly if you leave the doors open but that means a total loss of the food (for us, full fridge and freezer at the time)
Since then we've started periodically eating both fridge and freezer down to basically empty (except for stuff that can survive, as mentioned above) for a periodic down time. Apparently there are bits that can freeze up in the innards of the machine (especially when full) that if given time to thaw will start working again.

(14,118 posts)operates a small fan that runs to cool off the heat transfer coils had quit working. I
replaced the fan motor which again began doing its job and all was well.
NOTE: This involved me laying on the floor and finding that the small defective motor in the lower rear part of the fridge was very hot, then proceeding from there. If you're
capable of doing this you can save paying a repairman a lot of money. Your other
options are to pay the repairman or purchase a replacement fridge.

(4,989 posts)here which I will add to:
Common fault points for fridges are:
If the freezer is cold but fridge is not, then it may be the thermostat. This device tells the fan to move cold air from the freezer to the fridge up a duct in the back of of the unit.
If neither the freezer or fridge is keeping cold then it can be one of the following:
- Overheated motor. This is cause by dust encrusted cooling coils which, in older models, are on the back but on newer models underneath the unit behind a trim grate. Vacuum that out and hope the motor is not burned out.
- Condenser. This is the unit that converts the refrigerant from gas to liquid. This, generally, is not a homeowner fixable device.
With the supply chain issues, you may run into issues getting repair parts. If you have the room and the money, hit facebook marketplace. You might find a second hand fridge. Grab it, put it in the garage and get the food into it.
