How many times have we heard these impassioned bleats? How many times have some of us thought or said equivalent things?
Today, EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN SENATOR voted against even DISCUSSING the voting rights bill upon which the survival of our democracy depends.
There IS no "bridge too far"for them. There is no obscenity they will not "let slide". There are no "reasonable Republicans" in the Senate---possibly none anywhere.
Whither goest thou now, contrarians? Is "preserved the filibuster but destroyed democracy" what you want in the first paragraph of your obituaries?

Just go back to the rules that they have to stay in the Chamber listening to whoever is speaking until that person falls over.
This deal where only 1 senator has to object and then they all go home & needing 60 votes to override that one objection have got to end.

(19,148 posts)has left the Party of Trump already. Those who remain loyal to the GQP are Trump loyalists to the bone.
After TFG has abandoned politics, for any of 1000 reasons, they'll all say, "what could I do? I'd never get re-elected if I took a stand against him".
That's the point, you fucking cowards. If you didn't have the courage to choose your country over the fascist tendencies of one demented egomaniac, how could anyone ever trust you again for any reason!
You made your stinking bed, now die in it.

(35,926 posts)Give Michael Steele a shot.
After watching Democrats work with Republicans for years, Michael Steele weighs in on his fellow analysts' frustrations.
Start at the 5:58 mark
"...The question becomes, all right, Dems, what do you want to do? This is raw power. That's what this is...
so the reality for Democrats is how do want to play the power. What are you waiting for? ... But when it comes down to power and getting your agenda through ... Mitch McConnell wouldn't take a second breath to think about jettisoning the filibuster if it meant the GOP agenda wouldn't get through otherwise ... I don't get it.
70% of Americans support the Freedom To Vote Act.
41 Senators representing just 21% of the nation can block it.
25:15 mark: Michael Steele: We know the Democrats won't act... Democrats won't call their bluff.
Are we gonna hand wring over this? Or do a Mitch McConnell?

(24,327 posts)They have no real power, so their quitting gets overlooked.
See the two former state officials in Oklahoma who left that party.
Is it getting national news at all?

(2,172 posts)Absolutely, completely, hate our guts. They will do absolutely anything to screw Democrat's over.
Destroy democracy? Piece of cake.
Install a madman as dictator? Done.
Talk their own into getting a killer virus? No problem.
We've been having the conversation of why the Dems don't give it back to the GOP in spades for 20 fucking years.
What will it take and will we be able to give it back to them when we finally figure it out?
