become law. It seems to me that many people are forgetting that. If an entire bill fails to pass, due to the lack of one or two votes, none of what was in that bill happens. If nothing happens, nobody at all benefits.
That's why bills often fail when a majority can't be found for the entire bill. So, that's why bills get modified, so that people who would vote for the bill without some of its provisions will vote for the rest of the provisions in the bill.
Thus has it always been in Congress. Why should we expect things to be different in 2021?
If no bill passes, we get nothing. If a bill passes that helps many, but not all, people, we get the votes of the people it helps, perhaps increasing our majorities in the House and Senate, so that we can pass the other provisions in the bill.
I think the Rolling Stones had a song to that effect...

(146,281 posts)do many, many things, if they pass. Even if they don't end up doing one of those things, there are still many benefits.
If they don't pass, they do nothing at all that benefits anyone.
Think about it.

(146,281 posts)the ones that pass go into effect, benefiting many. Then, we can fill in the gaps with new legislation, now or after we elect more Democrats and increase our majorities.
An "All or nothing" attitude when it comes to a closely divided Congress generally gets us nothing at all. That accomplishes not a damned thing, and we really, really need to accomplish some stuff that benefits people.
I don't understand why that is so difficult to understand, really.

(22,093 posts)pack more goodies into the bills in order to pass/get things done. But I'm not an elected official and the ones representing us in Congress (democratic reps) know far more about what's going on than little ol' me. That's why I voted for them, I couldn't do the magnificent job that they all are doing, considering the difficulties of working w/ such a divided Congress.
I do feel that failing to hold Bannon accountable will backlash against the Congressional republicans, being that it is now apparent that there is no rule of law in this land that is held accountable by these thugs. What other things will they choose to ignore at their whim?

Taking it sitting down in not an option.

(146,281 posts)Do you even know what the provisions all are in the bills under consideration, or only what they are considering removing from those bills? I suspect the latter. So, if they don't pass in some form, what will people also NOT GET? Answer that for me.
