Elephant kills poacher in South Africa, park officials suspect

An alleged poacher was found dead and likely killed by an elephant on Thursday, according to a South African national park.

Kruger National Park tweeted a "suspected poacher" was killed by an elephant and "left behind by his accomplices." No animals were killed in the immediate area.

Poaching is the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals. The park warned "it is dangerous to hunt illegally" in the area.

"Criminals stand to lose their lives and freedom," Kruger National Park tweeted. The park, located in northeastern South Africa, is the nation's largest national park, according to Britannica.com.

Sometimes the elephants get the last word. And one less poacher in the world makes the world just a little bit better.

It must be located and given a verbal warning that violence will not be tolerated. If it continues to kill poachers it may receive a sternly worded letter.

Wish Asians would stop buying ivory.

China is a huge market, making killing elephants more profitable.

They are learning to never trust us.

Interesting article:
https://www.popsci.com/science/elephant-poaching-tuskless/

It also had another unintended impact on the animals, scientists reported this week. Female elephants without any tusks became much more common after the conflict. When the researchers examined population records and genetic material from park-dwelling elephants, they found that this trait rose swiftly as a response to poaching, and they pinned down several genes that may cause it.

“This study highlights the ubiquity of human influence across the tree of life,” says Shane Campbell-Staton, an evolutionary biologist at Princeton University, who published the findings on October 21 in Science. “Even the largest organisms on the planet are not just being affected by population decline…we’re literally changing the trajectory of their evolution moving forward.”

I adore animals and elephants are grand. They FEEL.

Sooner than later - they will fight back.
