was an inversion of reality. He has always tried to trump up charges against others to deflect from himself.
The mobster has always known that it is he who should have been locked up decades ago
It is even more urgent that he is locked up now

DENVERPOPS
(8,790 posts)And the reason the Repubs do it constantly, is that it works to deflect attention from what they are doing.
The dems have to continually go on the defense, and therefore have no time to do any kind of offense.........
This has been working well for them for decades, along with gaslighting.
Us boys used to do this too! A crude example would be a group of guys standing around and one of them farts.
He suddenly moves away from the others and says: "okay, who cut the fart"
All the other guys start saying: "It wasn't me", and the culprit has made all the others think it was anyone except him.
Just stop for a minute and think of recent examples! The dems are all pedophiles! to put the blame on them, instead of all the Repubs who were buddies with Epstein?......The dems are committing Voter Fraud!, The dems are Tax and Spend, The insurrectionists are True Patriots, and on and on and on and on......
And it appears to be working, over and over and over again.......
It is really quite simple:
1) Anything and everything spoken by a republican is hypocrisy.
2) Anything and everything spoken by a republican is a flagrant lie.
3) Anything and everything spoken by a republican is 180 degrees from the truth or reality.

I don't believe a competent propagandist would ever admit to following that strategy.
That said, Bannon did admit to "flooding the zone with shit".

True-believer extremists in democracies have always first had to defeat the democratic processes and majorities that almost always defeat them.
Stopdiggin, I suspect you slightly underestimate tRump. He's been maliciously slandering and victimizing all his life. He would have learned early to frame others for his misdeeds and took great pride in getting away with it, even if he didn't know the word.
ascribing convoluted motive and strategy here is wrong footing the scenario from the get go.

(6,803 posts)It's just that the GQP has convinced itself and suckers everywhere that poor people are the "entitled" ones. So he, because of his easiness with lying and despite his burdensome reputation, is tailor made for the role of propounder for their perverse message.
Legality, lawfulness, peaceful society: none of those things have been part of the GQP plan except as half-baked, tongue-in-cheek pap for conning the masses. They've turned the whole concept of criminality on it's head. They, the worst criminals to show their faces since the Third Reich, want a world where they can predate with impunity. Obviously!

(6,679 posts)Deflection ... yes.
Projection ... yes.
Plus I think his Clinton hate is personal. They used to be friends when he thought it was advantageous for him - and he got snubbed.
But also I think the goal of "lock her up" was propaganda for the long game. Oh I don't mean from TFG. He's not capable of the long view. But grabbed by the GOP and catapulted so it minimizes crime. It desensitizes. It creates an excuse on their part to go WAY over the line and then cry "oh you guys just want payback". Not to mention politics of the ridiculous causes people to disengage.
I'm not generally prone to hysterics, but when it comes to the GOP, I've come to believe EVERYTHING they do or say is intended to destroy what few small gains non white males have made in this country. If they hurt white men too in the process, I don't think they care about that either. The goal being personal power and wealth for as far as the youngest of us can see in the future.

(43,058 posts)And I apologize for repeatedly beating this drum, but these tactics were used by the Bolsheviks in their struggle against their political opposition in the 1917 Revolution. Their proclamations, usually issued by posters as well as press releases, would accuse the other parties and then they themselves would do the same thing. It was the political side of their insurrection.

(81,110 posts)Keep it up! Repetition is part of the strategy. You pound it in and pound it in and pound it in, and - well - look at the commercials on TV. You'll see the same damn commercial for the same orange juice or the same nasal decongestant or the same local tire store, in almost every commercial break. Assuming that rate of repetition is AT LEAST once a quarter-hour, or more often twice a quarter-hour; and that you're gonna be watching that show for an hour or that day-part for whatever reason, MAN is that message unavoidable! It's multiple exposures, and it has an impact. And shit, if the commercial has a catchy musical theme in its sloganeering, MAN is that a win! Pretty soon, it's an earwig that crawls in and takes root, and people start humming along or singing the jingle.

(1 post)I have a presence in two states (MD and NJ). Inversion of reality, while correct, is one of the many examples of a win-at-all-costs behavior. When I watch streaming with ads in both states the ads are exclusively GOP WAAC messages: little to no truth, all on-point emotion based narrative. You get the feeling Dem leaders have not accepted the battle space they exist in. I mentor my young colleagues all the time do you want to win or do you want to be right? Win first, then fix it. We cant even get the messaging out there. Simple example: Repub voters and their takeover of the American flag, many going so far as to add blue stripes, confederate symbolism, etc. even though that is illegal. Dem response? Nothing. Another example: your cable bill subsidizes Fox News Channel (its why I went pure streaming). Dem response: Nothing. Can you imagine if the Dem leadership started two simple campaigns:1) give away American flanges with a rainbow stripe; 2) encourage pure streaming. You obviously need clear and emotional messaging but at least youre trying..

(57,013 posts)I get goosebumps when I see a color guard. And while it riles me inside, altering the US Flag is a long timed canvas for free speech and it breaks rules but no laws. Quite honestly an auto dealership flying a ragged and torn Old Glory on a non operating flag pole in dark and in the rain pisses me off more than altering it or burning it.
Swastikas and Rebel Rags bug me a lot, but I remember fellow lefties modifying the stars with little swastikas and also soaking soaking flags in blood.
You really want to send a message? Get the fucking vote out for every state and Federal election.

(81,110 posts)This is one of my biggest gripes these days. WHERE THE HELL ARE OUR DEMS???? WHY don't they - as you put it - "accept the battle space they exist in"? For Pete's Sake! And they're shitty at messaging. It seems almost intentional! Like maybe it's beneath them or something, not sufficiently ivory-tower-ish. Or something. And messaging is a WEAPON. It's an INFLUENCER. It can mold opinions and change minds and reinforce ideas and steer and direct. And if it's clever enough, or it makes you smile or chuckle, so much the better! Then it'll be that much easier to remember, AND TO PASS ALONG TO SOMEBODY ELSE.
And I don't know why it's not Priority One with our team. My dad had a Vince Lombardi quote plaqued and hung it on his office wall. "Winning isn't a sometime thing. It's the only thing. There's only room for one place, and that's first place."

(7,399 posts)A three-word slogan that discredits your opponent is a useful thing. It's much easier to just assert it again and again than it is to actually demonstrate the assertion. Whether it rises to the level of being a slander or a smear is hard to say, this did in my opinion.

(81,110 posts)The quick hit, the Short-Attention-Span Theater tactic. Grab 'em. Fast. So the message hits and takes hold before the target even realizes what's happened. Multiplied strategically by REPETITION of that. RELENTLESS repetition.

I put smart in quotation marks, because I think that TV-obsessed moron was simply imitating whatever he saw on Fox News.
His ridiculous accusations about Obama's birthplace, threats to lock up Hillary Clinton, etc... it was the best way to appeal to right-wing authoritarians. (Many of whom are white evangelical Christians in this country.)
As even more time passed, then "Q" assured them that Trump was going to send all of the Democrats and RINO's to Guantanamo Bay to be executed for supposed pedophilia and drinking child's blood. So keep the faith, right-wing authoritarian kooks!
It's amazing to me how those RWA weirdos allow their fears and fantasies to become reality for them, thereby justifying their own inhumanity to others.

"I fact checked your claim(s), I think you may be making stuff up. I don't intend to believe anything you say from now on. You are not projecting or being deceitful, are you?"
But back to the slobfather - his words were never meant to convey any actual information or be consistent from one day to the next, they were always meant to elicit certain emotional reactions from those listening.
Those who heard his words and looked for meaning, thought he was insane.
Those who only heard the emotive messages, thought he was a saint.
Put in a situation where it was clear logical thought and speech was the only option, he floundered big time.
