Don't Let the Door Hit You on the Way Out

Its frustrating. I understand that rebellion makes for a more buzzy story but while 3% is a number worth noting, its not really a dramatic reduction. Especially in the context of the Great Resignation, which has also been widely reported. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2.9% of Americans voluntarily quit their jobs in August of this year. The 3% of state workers who opted to resign or be terminated is in line with that number. But the Times article doesnt even consider how many of these workers were considering leaving their jobs already, in line with the national trend.
Its worth noting that the 3% have some things working on their behalf that the 92% dont. One of the terminated workers was Washington State Universitys head football coach, Nick Rolovich, who plans to sue the university over his dismissal. Right-Wing group Turning Point USA also embedded a staffer with a group of Seattle police and firefighters as they performed a series of photo and video ops to highlight their exit.
The first of these video clips, dismissed officers feeding the homeless, will for most people come off as an argument for their dismissal. The police and firefighters, who youll recall are not vaccinated, are seen in the video serving food unmasked! If you wanted to create a super spreader event designed to infect the local homeless population it would look exactly like what we see in this video!
The same type of media coverage in Washington State is happening nationally as well. Media continues to fixate on the small percentage of the population who defy vaccine mandates, rather than the overwhelming majority who follow them. Right-Wing media outlets in particular are attempting to push the narrative that vaccine resignations and terminations somehow make the public less safe. As Fox News Peter Doocy attempted to do at a White House press briefing earlier this week.
