The architecture of the present crisis and the ominous waypoints ahead are clear. No matter the outcome of the next Presidential election, the GOP nominee, likely Trump, will refuse to concede a clear defeat. Allegations of fraud will be made without evidence.
GOP officials will be prepared to act in furtherance of that lie at all levels of government including State Legislatures and the Congress. It is important to remember that the people stealing the election wont announce their intentions as such. They will lie about an election
being stolen in the name of fairness, in defense of democracy and for the cause of freedom. Violence and Mayhem will certainly result from this repudiation of patriotism and the Constitution.
The chances of success for a successful coup, foe which there was a plan and WH meetings
in 2020 will be much higher in 2024. Should an autocratic faction that has abandoned its commitment to elections, the rule of law, decency, reality, pluralism, equality and the US
Constitution come to power in America again, whether legitimately or not, there will be
one last chance to decisively turn back from the abyss and vote them out. The ultimate crisis will come when Trump or whoever refuses to yield power after the will of the people is asserted. Both crisis are within view of where we sit today. Democracy in this country requires
we start talking about it again. Democracies are the only form of government that have ever existed where the power of the State is subordinated and placed below, not above, the dignity and freedom of the individual human being. Rage, division, disunion and the obliteration of
civility, comity and goodwill have reached a dangerous place in the American society. Giant companies like Facebook have metastasized into Democracy killers. Their algorithms have radicalized and poisoned people with misinformation and erected the superstructure of a dystopia
where the lie and truth stand equal and indistinguishable from one another. Zuckerberg believes that he is a victim. Imagine that. He is one of the most powerful people in the world and way high on the list of people doing profound damage to not just democracy and teenagers but
the harmony of society. He is no victim and neither is his company. What comes next for us is all but written on a wall. We should take the time to heed the warning staring us in the face. Future generations will judge this moment on our response. I hope we measure up.

(32,579 posts)We all know that Chump was planning to claim FRAUD!!! in 2016. But then he couldn't because he accidently/astonishingly won the election.
Chump knew he would lose in 2020, at least 6 months before the election. His own polls told him he would lose, and he already started with the FRAUD!!! claims by summer 2020. This is why Chump should be barred from running again. He's the worst candidate ever in the history of the USA.
There are only 2 outcomes for Chump: either "I won!" or FRAUD!!!
Haven't we seen enough of this already to know what will happen in 2024?

(37,156 posts)...having a nominee who doesn't actively offend their sensibilities will make a lot of people sweep it all under the rug, to think "the system held, it was all a bad dream."
The problem was never just Trump, it was his support system among Republicans and conservatives, and that'll still be there, emboldened to "play their cards smarter."

used period. One of their biggest excuses was hacked voting machines, let's take that excuse away from
them.
