NJ Home's Confederate Halloween Display Draws Outrage
===========
NBC New York attempted to talk with the owner of the home, but he did not want to speak, only saying that he's had the decoration for years.
"No, get the f--- out!" the man shouted from a distance.
Minutes later, he moved an SUV to try and block the view from the road, while offering an obscene gesture to the camera.
The neighbors who live across the street said they don't understand why anyone would be offended by the suggestive piece.
"It's Halloween, people put decorations out, it is what it is," said Jeannette Benz, who said she wasn't bothered by the flag nor the decoration. "I think Halloween is Halloween."
The president of the Toms River area NAACP told NBC New York they are looking into matter, adding that it is unfortunate that a holiday enjoyed by so many would be tainted by such images.

And I do not think parts of it might as well be Alabama.
You might get a crackpot like this here and there but there are no areas that are trumpers.
------------------------------
on edit, in response to your Alabama comparison:
In NJ around 75% of the population votes.
In Alabama, only 63%.
In NJ, educational level by Bachelor's degree is 41%.
Alabama only 26%.
Although the data from studies varies, it is generally thought that education and voting go hand in hand.
My point is that your use of the state of Alabama is a poor choice because there are major differences in the two states.
I realize you may have been using hyperbole.

(25,930 posts)They gotta live somewhere. It doesnt seem possible that all those rump voters are so evenly distributed that nobody would notice. There must be some enclaves somewhere in the state.

(25,534 posts)Every third house has a Trump flag and Maga stickers on the cars. These are by the way the kind of people who give you big hello in the street and wave all friendly-like, and then report your house because it has a couple of broken shingles on one side or the grass is 3/8 of an inch too long. I am not exaggerating, this is the case. A very nice thinking, progressive neighbor of mine was cited for having moss growing out from between the bricks on the three stairs leading up to her porch. She knows exactly who called it in, because the guy had stopped by to give her a piece of mail which had wound up in his mailbox and she saw him looking down at her mortar joints while she was walking to the door. 48 hours later she got a letter from the Town-hall instructing her to correct the plant growth within her masonry. I personally was cited for the two items mentioned previously, and I corrected them of course, went to the guy who I absolutely know reported me and told him in no uncertain terms that if I get another letter Im going to see to it that he has difficulties. I had once mentioned to him that I had a patient who told me that if I ever needed something taken care of he and his friends had nothing better to do most Saturday nights and would love to get some recreational violence in. Of course, I would never do such a thing but its not bad to have a little bit of fear hanging over these creeps.

(35,658 posts)Not to mention the two-faced nature of these people.
Code enforcement pretty much goes only on a complaint basis. I have plenty of reasons to report a neighbor but I won't do it because as a tactic, that sucks and it's petty. I am attempting to work out something with the neighbor on my own. So far on one count I have had a minor success and I'm still working on the other one.
I have recently spent a good amount of time on the shore, but I haven't seen any signs or indicators there are a lot of trump supporters there.

(35,658 posts)However, to answer it I have to do a little research--which since I am interested in this topic, I don't mind.
However, it will be a little while because I'm up to my ears in work due to the storm. Basement, roof, all need action.

(35,658 posts)trumpers are the argument.
Yesterday John Nichols of The Nation had an interview about his new article. (https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/joe-manchin-climate/)
The discussion got off to the governor's race in NJ and Nichols remarked that yes, NJ has republicans but most are not of the trump ilk.
A major example is Morris County. When I taught in that area, I would often stop at a coffee shop before or after class. I would hear political discussions there and if what I heard is of any significance, these people wouldn't think of voting for trump. He alienates and disgusts them. They are alienated from the republican party now and I heard a few of them say they have become independents.
It is tempting to think Southern NJ is more ignorant and thus more inclined to trump, however, that is probably a stereotype at work.

(483 posts)most of the locals on LBI are solid maga red, with their maga flags waving proud on all of their boats and their houses. I go there offseason sometimes and they're everywhere. The people that come for the summer, that's split pretty evenly, but alarmingly alot more than i expected from a "solid blue" state. my MIL's neighbor is a crazy maga dude, all of his townie friends that post on FB are the same way. really sad.

(10,828 posts)I can honestly say there have always been pockets of radical right-wing loons in the state, as in dedicated KKK people. In areas of south Jersey and on your way to the Jersey shore, the region is rife with ultra-ugly sentiment. Even where I grew up (approx. 25 miles south of Trenton), the bigotry/racism was profound.
That was back in the day, of course, but from what I've read and heard? Hasn't changed all that much. Generational in nature, I guess.
