I wore a Cleveland Indians sweatshirt little chilly out and the nurse said I can't believe they're changing the name to the Guardians they should have left it the Indians because they were honoring a player for the Indians who was Indian. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to get into an argument I just can't believe the stupidity

"The Guardians nickname refers to statues just outside the stadium on the Hope Memorial Bridge. The 43-foot "Guardians of Traffic" have stood for nearly 100 years and are meant to symbolize progress and transportation.
The four pylons contain one guardian facing each direction for a total of eight designs. No two are the same.
According to Cleveland Scene, there's a stagecoach, covered wagon, hay rack, early 20th century car and four trucks representing the evolution of transportation. They were nearly torn down in the 1970s when the county engineer wanted to add more lanes to the bridge."
At the link, there are pictures and video, it's actually really cool.

Ian Hunter was the lead singer of Mott the Hoople. Yes, "All the Young Dudes," that's him.

Considering the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is there now, Cleveland Rocks would be a good baseball team name. Guardians is fine too.

(2,220 posts)who are very socially conscious and believed that story for a long time. Hubster was one of them. Thats what he was told growing up, and he carried that until just a few years ago.
Im not a Clevelander, and I wasnt even a baseball fan till 1994, so I dont have that history. I managed to straighten him out with that, and he agrees with the need to change the name.
However, we both think Guardians is a stupid name.
