We needed a boilerplate letter from Social Security in order to secure an apartment for my homeless son. The web site did not work (another story) so he called the SS office and requested paper letters for confirmation. His request includes award letters from two offices. Both letters were produced and mailed twenty days ago. The first letter just arrived. The second letter is still missing.
First class mail SHOULD NOT take twenty days. I understand that DeJoy has ordered all mail to travel by truck rather than air. Perhaps the USPS plans to re-introduce "AIR MAIL" as a premium service.
This intentional slowdown of first class mail will have a huge impact on all kinds of commerce. I see banks salivating at the opportunity to collect late fees on mailed payments.
Me.

(2,113 posts)Sorry to hear you have COVID *AND* that you are being forced to go out to exercise your right to vote. You shouldn't have to do that. The RW plan is chugging along, right on schedule, isn't it? *sigh*
Well, I hope you don't feel too poorly and I hope you get better soon.

(10,429 posts)I've noticed much slower mail, less "junk", and received solicitations to use online payment from most of my bills.
I used to be able to get a Netflix disc on Wednesday, watch it, put it in the mail Thursday and receive another disc Saturday. That was returned Monday then I would get the Wednesday disc. For years, consistently 2 per week and I could plan around that.
Now I can get a disc Friday or Saturday, and even though it is put in the mail at the PO on Monday, rarely will one show up by the next saturday. It's not the fault of Netflix, they made adjustments to speed up their end, it's that asshole DeJoy whose removal process should have been started 9 months ago.

(19,199 posts)Even at the best of times they came late. I'd die before my Meds came through the USPS system now, and it's not the fault of USPS employees.
Well, it's the fault of one employee!

(45,432 posts)they still use mule trains in some areas like Supai Arizona.
Since trucks can't get to Australia we should try sending messages in bottles and train kangaroos to pick them and carry them in their pouch. But DeJackass decided to stop service to an entire country.
USPS is short staffed with DeJoyless probably slow rolling attempts to recruit or hire new workers.
