Starbucks, Costco bump up wages amid national labor shortage

Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST) and Starbucks Corp. (Nasdaq: SBUX) are both raising wages for their hourly employees across the country.

On Monday, Costco increased its minimum wage to $17 an hour. And by the summer of 2022, Starbucks will average $17 an hour for its nonsalaried workers, with a $15 minimum wage, the Seattle-based coffee retail giant announced Wednesday.

The moves come as retailers across the county redouble their efforts to recruit workers amid a labor shortage.

"As Starbucks celebrates our 50th anniversary, we are reminded that our heritage is based on the simple concept that our green apron partners are the heartbeat of Starbucks and that success is best when it’s shared,” Starbucks President and CEO Kevin Johnson said in a news release. “Today, we are announcing another historic investment in our partners, knowing that when we take care of our partners, they take care of our customers, and all stakeholders benefit."

Boosted contributions to her HSA, big COVID vaxx bonus and a quality of life stipend that will pay for our pet insurance for the year.
And mine announced increased bonuses.
We both already make good money already, but her company is definitely shorthanded and looking to sweeten the hiring pot.
