Found a CVS only 20 minutes from here giving the Moderna booster. The one in town only has Pfizer.
My wife is planning to go there tomorrow morning, and I go to the other place at noon.
I have to sub Monday, so I'm hoping minimal side effects. Had some for shot 2, but nothing I couldn't sub through. I just prefer that not be the case.
Update: Got shot around 10:30 Saturday morning. Woke up around midnight for bathroom break and felt a little flushed. Injection site a bit sore & a general light ache from the bottom of the ribs to the shoulders.
Same as 2nd shot, but less so. Temperature is 99, not 99.8-100.9. Achiness is half as much, at most. No headache at all.
So, modest reaction seems to be the right description.

(3,623 posts)My wife and I are scheduled next week to get the Pfizer booster at our local Kroger. We both received Moderna shots 1 and 2 back in April, but discussed it and decided to go with Pfizer for the third round.

(64,995 posts)I know CDC says it is ok, but they didn't make a declaration on efficacy.
If my Moderna option required a long drive, I would probably have a different point of view.
But, 20 minutes is no big deal.
Since I got my first 2 in a mass vax site in the next county, and all they did was Moderna, the Walgreen's there was an option. But, that's 10 minutes more each way.
Besides, there's a Jewell-Osco with a great fresh seafood counter about a mile from there. So, I'll get crab legs & calamari for the next 2 days.
Win-win!

(14,853 posts)A Moderna booster on Monday for me.
Pretty easy dates for us to remember! Pre-Halloween for you, November 1st for me.

(205,197 posts)I also had to go downstate about 20 minutes to get my initial shots since the local CVS was booked solid - the Moderna was the first vaccine to become available in my area. I've looked to see where I can get the booster and a local Rite Aid is apparently offering the Moderna, but I hesitated to sign up immediately since I felt pretty awful that night and the next day after my second shot and I want to make sure I don't have to be anywhere. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

(9,259 posts)I also had to drive to the CVS in the next town over as our CVS only has Pfizer. I had J & J back in March and I read that Moderna is better for this. Arm a little sore, shot itself was totally painless. Making the cupcakes now for my granddaughters birthday party tomorrow, in case I dont feel up to it in the AM. Plus I want to taste-test one or two its chocolate.

(32,079 posts)Most of the sites here provide Moderna, which is fine. That's what I got in the first place, and they recommend sticking with what you got in the first place. The mixing part is for those who don't have the same one readily available to them. I had no problem scheduling an appointment. The vaccination rate in this shithole county is only 50%, so there's plenty available, since these idiots won't take advantage of what is available to them.
