They don't fear how history might judge them. They don't fear how their own grandchildren might judge them. Some of that may be that they have rationalized their behavior and truly believe they are right, but my guess is that it's mostly just simple stupidity.

You've got to be carefully taught to hate all the people your relatives hate.....

and so on.

Fear is what drives the hate.

And fear is what the Mercers have made to grow in America.

From the WW2 can-do generation to now where there's fear on every side.

They believe the Constitution is their property and that it is read according to their interpretation. Likewise they feel that they own the flag and the version of U.S. history which they insist it represents.

They believe that the wealthy are the natural aristocrats and rulers of America. They believe in an allegedly Christian founding of our country according to versions of "Christianity" which are strangely absent from the record. They also seem to think that Texas was the among the original states.
