The Burnout Factor

Last edited Sat Oct 30, 2021, 05:39 AM - Edit history (1)

I've not seen it discussed - and yet is a predictable and inevitable part of every cult movement that has ever existed.

Even the most ardent adherents of cult behaviour start to lose their enthusiasm when the same old/same old grievances about past transgressions are the only fare on the menu - and ideas for future political action don't even exist.

We've seen that Trump rallies, along with Trump-supporting rallies, are losing steam. We've watched the videos of attendees leaving while Trump is still speaking - people who came out to hear "where we go from here", only to be bored shitless by hearing what should have happened in the past.

It's like the doomsday cults - eventually they realize that everything that was sure to happen by a certain date never happened - and probably never will.

The "election was stolen" meme sounded plausible to some last November, December - even into January. How plausible does it sound a year after the election when no proof thereof has surfaced? How plausible will it sound a year from now - two years from now - three years from now?

The MAGAts need to be fed fresh meat, and serving up the same stale, rotting victuals is not going to satisfy their hunger.

"I was cheated in 2020" is not a rallying cry in 2024 - it is an admission that Trump's army of MAGAts weren't enough to re-elect him then, and certainly won't be enough to elect him in 2024.

The "Burnout Factor" is real. It consists of Trump-humpers who are looking for leadership into the future - and are only hearing the incessant whining of a man who can't let go of the past.

That kind of rhetoric only lasts so long before it sounds like a pitiful excuse for failure - and even your most ardent supporters recognize it for what it is.

I think they DO KNOW the election was not stolen - they just like hearing it - the same way they want to believe other utter garbage they are told. They're humoring their cult leader.

Eventually you get tired of hearing the same old thing.

It's like fans who follow their favourite bands, from concert to concert. They go to hear the classic tunes that captured them in the first place.

Now imagine those fans hearing speech after speech from that band about how they were cheated out of a Grammy they should have won years ago.

How long would their fans still show up to hear that same old story for the ten thousandth time?

they do not get tired hearing the same old thing.

When WWE rasslin came out I watched it for a while but I stopped because it was the same old thing week after week. WWE arenas are still full of Magats.

Can you calm a rabid dog, get him/her to be nice, to just go away?

Fox News and right wing media feeds the rabid dogs every day. Everything is building to the 2022 election. If the GQP takes back the House, which is likely if S1 doesn't get passed, nobody on the right will get bored. A House with Gym Jordan in charge of the Judiciary committee will impeach president Biden and VP Harris every month, and the rabid dogs will howl.

that the Slobfather is a lying low-life who will not find a penny to help them find lawyers after they commit crimes on his behalf. So the cult size is shrinking by the day.
I actually think officials are counting on this. The Slobfather will soon be history.

As the cult burns through the enthusiasm they initially sparked with the individual and had nothing new to offer or that individual is attracted to the next shiny object from another source.

for some, but I say that how many get bored or get woke they will be replaced. The insurrection has grown since 1/6 is my proof that it is not losing steam. Big name insurrectionists must be held accountable or we will lose our democracy. I hope that Merrick Garland has been working behind the scenes because our democracy depends on him, and passing S1. The select committee doesn't have the clout or time to save us, but it must still try.

Repeated year after year by Cato the Elder until it eventually won out.

Dog help the US, and indeed, the world, if the QMAGAts find their version of Scipio Aemilianus.

and if they are going to do a damn thing about Bannon or anyone else. I am sick of hearing about the Virginia election and
20 e-mails a day asking for money, I live in Ohio. I am sick of hearing about Biden's poll numbers. I have totally turned off the so-called news channels. What news I get is on DU and I read some things of interest on Yahoo and the paper. I thought things would be more normal once Trump left office. The news has become even worse than before. Now it is looking more and more like democracy is dead in the USA come 2022. I just don't want to hear it any more.

I am frustrated and disgusted too. I only watch 3 people on cable news when I watch it. I am older but I donate money yearly to democratic organizations. I live among them here in Pa. I used to write letters to the editor to my local right wing rag. They censored my letters which did not violate their policies so I canceled my subscription to their paper and told them why.

and they'll be saying he raised people from the dead.

I mean, he's got all the same characteristics as L. Ron Hubbard --lazy, greedy, thieving, lascivious, etc., and that cult is still around.

He's the pinnacle of "American Exceptionalism". Con-man, pitch-man, blow-hard --the quintessential "Ugly American". Just SO mesmerizing!

"America Sucks" --should be inscribed on his mausoleum as Holy Writ.

And his followers will circumambulate it annually, carrying torches, wearing MAGA hats, chanting those sacred words...

... most of the MAGAts will be dead - and Republicans will deny their party ever spawned him.

They may have latched on to some other rodeo clowns in the intervening years, but Trump will have become "Donald who?"

Attributing god-like powers to Trump is what cultists do - but they're a small part of the population. Cults fall apart when their Dear Leader demonstrates that his only agenda is incessant whining about himself, and has absolutely nothing to do with even his most ardent followers.

Eventually the dog-and-pony show fails to inspire, or even entertain. And once boredom sets in, people look elsewhere for amusement.
