if it is clear where you are and you are in the northern half of the country - look for the aurora!

Check the green line on this map

Even here in western NC there is a chance - will be heading out soon and looking north. Those in the wider green area will have a really good shot at seeing them. But anywhere north of the green line has a possibility - probably low on the northern horizon.

Check in if you do see them!

Just went outside here - sadly, still cloudy from our all-day rain, so no views for me.

Still looks that way now. Usually happens when something cool like this is going on. Maybe the clouds will glow.

For those who get to see it, enjoy! They can be really amazing.

and saw it often.

Some years ago my husband and I visited Minneapolis, and when we got out of the rental car at the hotel one night and looked up at the sky, there were glowing patches. I said, Oh, wow! The aurora! He said no. I said yes. He said no. I said yes, trust me, I've seen it lots of times before. Next day the front page of the local paper had a big article about rare view of the aurora in Minneapolis.

Strong CME.

Stay calm. The Earth's magnetic field's got this. (I vaguely think the magnetic poles are misaligned. First impression is that this could have been much worse.)
