Manchin said paid-leave programs could entice fraud, inquired about work requirements: report

Manchin pointed to potential fraud as one of his concerns about paid leave, per The Washington Post.

Manchin's opposition to federal paid leave has caused consternation among many of his colleagues.

Sen. Patty Murray said last week that she objected to "one man" denying US women paid leave.

However, according to a Washington Post report that detailed the push by Democratic women to save the family leave last week, Manchin has a series of "evolving concerns" about the benefit program, based on the statements of five individuals who spoke anonymously.

getting a few weeks off after giving birth...
Kinda wish he would consider if maybe Donald "Billionaire" Trump paying $750 or less a year in taxes was more "Fraud" than poor people having a few weeks where they're not scared of eviction.

Let's not pay social security benefits; there'll be fraud.

Let's not put up stop lights; people will run them.

Let's not put life guards on the beaches; they could get distracted and fail to save a swimmer sometimes.

Manchin thinks voters are fucking airheads

Members of Congress get unlimited paid leave. JUst another millionaire's concern that someone besides himself would be helped out.

We have had paid leave for a very long time, if there is any fraud it is never heard about because there would be so little of it. Is there big fraud with unemployment insurance? Because that is who administers it.

Family leave happens after the baby is born or the child is adopted, not during the process. So there's all sorts of legal papers that are required to be presented to request that paid leave.
There isn't going to be someone faking a pregnancy, a sick spouse or relative, or always saying they're going through an adoption process to get 2/3 of their salary ust so they can sit on their ass or blow it all on hookers and dope for 2 months or so.
This isn't like faking a worker's comp claim, where one can shop lawyers and doctors to sign off on a nebulous chronic soft tissue back or neck injury to get tax free payments not to work for "the rest of your life" - or at least until the insurance company investigates before settling.
Or the very rare SSDI fraud. Neither of which nets very much, by the way. I guess they can be supplemented with various welfare programs, but even then, that's not a lot of net income for all the work needed to "sit on your ass.

And that is where Manchin is obviously coming from.

Someone has no clue what paid family leave is about.

Politicians are flooded with opportunities to become a crook every day they're in office: insider trading, special gifts and favors from lobbyists, illegal campaign contributions and gifts, etc.

Everyday Jane and Joe should be so lucky.
