(792 posts)They run the internal demographic polling and correlate it with the revenue demographics and go from there.
NBA determined that portraying the verdict as an endorsement of vigilantism rather than self defense yielded the most profit. NFL and NBA determined that ignoring it entirely was best for their profits.
NBA also determined that going along with the wishes of the Chinese government is good for their future profit there.

(3,647 posts)After posting the message last night I started thinking about what the NBA does - primarily advocating for and promoting basketball - and came to the same conclusion.

(1,105 posts)that institutions are simply frameworks. The messages that come out of those frameworks are coming from the actual people who currently hold a position in the institutions. Sometimes sane people are controlling the message, sometimes less than sane people, but always it's people.
Institutions don't actually text, tweet, message, release statements, or appear on talk shows.
