(36,106 posts)Sorry if that's a stupid question
If Omicron supposedly has milder symptoms, you'd assume many people aren't seeking medical treatment and yet the cases are skyrocketing.

Does a home test kit get "registered" officially?

(33,643 posts)But in any case it's probably difficult to know what % of people reliably report it, so the safest assumption I'd say is 'no'.
Hell, even 'official' tests it's probably still up to the provider of the test, and then the state, to be 'responsible' in reporting it to the Feds. I'm sure we can correctly speculate that there are some states (cough ... FL ... cough) that are not doing thusly.

(34,060 posts)Some of the at home kits are tied to proctored testing (often in connection with a health department or a school). Those are often reported to/through the sponsoring entity.
The tests can be run without the proctoring app, and are not reported. If they are run with the proctoring app (Navica, for example), they are typically reported. I've taken 7 which were eligible for proctoring (county health department or University). Of those 7, two were reported. Largely I was using them after exposure to be sure I was not positive before I walked into the classroom. In one instance I was on hold with the proctoring app for about 5 hours - so the next one I did unproctored. (The later proctoring experience was much shorter.)
Thanks for that info, was hoping you'd chime in

(27,439 posts)Cancelled at the last minute. Son is waiting results of testing. They are all vaxxed and boosted but the whole quarantine thing would have been a real hassle, the logistics would have been a nightmare.
He said the lines are really long for testing and he still hasnt received results back from testing on Tuesday. Hes got symptoms so now its just wait and see.

(34,060 posts)I expect them back later tonight - or perhaps tomorrow. (Although I have had them take as long as 5 days.)
My symptoms are nearly gone.

(14,971 posts)He's 81, had all his shots and is completely asymptomatic. If they're vaccinated, they should be fine. It is scary, though.
