It has now hit home to me. Last week I went out with some old friends for a meal we are all
vaccinated, boosted, and where needed mask wearing people but I just got a call from them
and my friend's wife* just tested positive for C-19. A few days before we met for our meal they
gave a ride to a woman to a funeral they were going to and as soon as she got into the car with
them she took off her mask and told them that she didn't believe in that "vaccination stuff."
Now I have to go and buy a test kit and to see if I can go to a cabin for a few days around New
Years everybody else who was going to the cabin has been vaccinated, boosted, and tested but
if I test positive then I will not go to the cabin.
These stupid mother fuckers should not get any medical care at all. A wall tent, a cot, the tent
can be heated or cooled as needed, all the pain killers they want, and that is it. No supplemental
O2 or monoclonal antibody treatments.
* She is a 3 + year cancer survivor.

(40,208 posts)I dont get it. These same people were vaccinated for everything else: measles, polio, flu shots, tetanus shots
what is wrong with them?
It is insane.

(9,965 posts)IMNSHO your friends should have pitched that woman's sorry azz out of the car the minute she took off her mask. Politeness only goes so far when you're immunosuppressed.
Furthermore, I agree with you. I'm a nurse (retired), vaccinated and boosted, and I think the unvaccinated should be treated in field hospitals and cared for by only unvaccinated personnel.

(70,490 posts)BTW many years ago I was helping out a professor and I mounted little pieces of fungi on a stage and then
took 'em to a SEM (scanning electron microscope) to take pictures of what the professor wanted. On time
I asked the tech to really bring up the magnification and I saw little grey fuzzy things and those were viruses.

(1,952 posts)I would have told her to get out of the car. Nice of her to take off her mask and THEN inform then she wasn't vaccinated.
I hope the wife of your friend who is a cancer survivor has no lingering symptoms and I wish her a full recovery.

(21,786 posts)which means that eating out in a restaurant, even if you are vaccinated and boosted, was a profoundly unwise thing to do. Just as likely it happened die to exposure in the restaurant.

(34,105 posts)this may be the end result. I don't like to say I want people to die but I want my family and friends to live and not be at risk because of these dopes. I agree that if you do not take any care yourself you should not be the first to get the treatment. As a retired nurse I feel even worse saying this but when it comes right down to basics, if you have the info and the ability to get the treatments and you don't? You get to be last in line. This is too serious to play with.

(3,406 posts)Give them a throw-away blanket and pillow while they wait to "find Jeebus" lying on a pew. Let their pastor empty their bedpans (or use the collection plates).
Their movement has killed nearly a million Americans. It is the largest mass-casualty event on our continent since the native genocide or the Civil War (or "War of Northern Aggression" as they teach in many states).
There will never be accountability for the propaganda that resulted in this carnage. THAT is a damn shame!

(34,062 posts)I've got a very aggressive cancer (on average 50% survival at 5 years). The people in the support group I'm part of still engage in magical thinking about (1) quack cures and (2) their own likelihood of survival. And yes, there are COVIDiots there.
It's crass - but the adage about sleeping with whomever your sexual partner is sleeping with is very accurate for COVID. You're riding in the car with, eating in the restaurant with, working with everyone those living in your home are doing each of those things with.

(34,062 posts)The last week has been rough, emotionally.
I'm 1 year past diagnosis (sugeries 11/30, 12/15, and 12/29 last year). We had planned to spend Christmas with my parents this year (all 5 of us vaccinated, boosted, and careful about exposure). I also have to have scans every 3 months to check for metastasis.
Unfortunately, I came down with what is probably the flu a week ago today (not COVID- per a PCR test at the peak of symptoms) so I had to cancel both Christmas and the scans (3 mo oncology check-up and 1-year surgery check-up). Due to a poopy employer, I'm retiring with virtually no notice and am out health insurance as of 1/1 - and won't necessarily have Medicare util 2/1. I managed to get the scans rescheduled on Tuesday. But if there's anything growing in my lungs I may have to fight Medicare for the coverage to which I'm entitled.
So any and all positive energy is appreciated!!

(5,382 posts)He is fully vaccinated, but only because work made him.
Apparently the vaccines were developed far too quickly, so can't be trusted.
Didn't want to hear that the whole vaccination creation process is well understood, been practiced for decades with other diseases, and governments around the world have thrown massive resources at getting them developed on shortened time frames.
Of course, his girlfriend he lives with hasn't been vaccinated, because 'other medical conditions', so all that needs to happen is for him to pick up the virus at work, bring it home, he gets mildly sick while watching the girlfriend go under fast.
Gave up trying to get him to see the potential problem there.
Fingers crossed it doesn't happen.
I'm hopeful me and the wife didn't pick up anything over the last 2 days, in the proximity of unmasked relatives and associated strangers who may or may not have been vaccinated.
Eat, drink, talk loudly, be merry! Who cares?
Yes, and off into a corner to have a smelly smoke with your teenage buddies.
(Host didn't care but it's illegal here).
Now, full of food and alcohol, and maybe a bit of THC in your system, in the car and drive home.
Same as last few Christmases. Some people run on mindless routine. Hope it doesn't backfire on them this time.
I don't wish any harm on others, but I will be short on sympathy if bad news follows those 2 days.
Hopefully, I won't need to feel sorry for myself or the wife, both double vaccinated and getting the booster in a couple of days.
Time will tell.
Off to do some shopping now and look for available test kits.

(16,370 posts)I will make it a rule to ask about vaxx status before agreeing to let someone set foot in my car or my home, and vice versa, AND also warn prospective riders/guests that masks are non-negotiable. You can't be too careful these days, and you sure as hell can't count on the idiot cult members to volunteer the information that they're plague rats.
