Marjorie Taylor Greene - Dems who move to red states should get a 'cooling off period" before vote

Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested that Democrats who move to red states should get a 'cooling off period' before being allowed to vote

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Democrats moving to red states should be temporarily barred from voting.
Florida and Texas have received by far the largest influx of new residents relocating from other states.
Greene also once again discussed a "national divorce," where blue and red states split.
On Wednesday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene advocated that people moving from Democratic-leaning states to Republican-leaning states should be temporarily barred from voting.

The congresswoman tweeted that "brainwashed people" moving from California and New York "really need a cooling off period."

Her seat is in a pretty safe district so unfortunately the voters in her district seem to approve.

It is certainly not understandable or acceptable to anyone with any shred of humanity, intelligence, or understanding of how government works, but then again politicians in red states seem to pick their voters and not the other way around.

Thu Dec 30, 2021, 08:07 AM
Dec 2021
Mobile people vote less when faced with restrictive registration and residency requirements. All states today require that a voter be 18 years old by election day, a U.S. citizen, and a legal resident of the state. Most states also restrict voting for currently incarcerated felons and for those legally declared mentally incompetent. Historically, many states imposed lengthy residency requirements at the state, county, and local levels, some as long as two years. Until 1970, Texas required one year residence in the state. States justified lengthy residency requirements with arguments of fraud prevention and a promise of more knowledgeable voters, but often used them simply to disenfranchise. However, the 1970 Voting Rights Act set thirty days as the maximum permissible residency requirement in presidential elections and a 1972 U.S. Supreme Court decision (Dunn v. Blumstein, 405 U.S. 330) applied the thirty day maximum to state and local elections. Since then most states have reduced or eliminated their residency requirements. Absent any evidence of increased voter fraud, a few states have set aside any residency requirements with Election Day registration.

And despite the anger towards Manchin- without him, Mitch would be the majority leader. I expect the government would have been shut down multiple times, the debt ceiling breached and no judges confirmed. Biden has been confirming lower court justices at a record pace.

Let's start with Kentucky!

I swear, every time I tell myself that I am not as cruel, or heartless as these ignorant fucksticks, they propose something like this and drag me right down in the mud with them.

Makes me think that there were probably a lot of people before the Civil War that argued kicking the shit out of the Confederate states would inflict pain on the innocent people in those states.

God help us all if the MTG's of the world ever get in power...

Or, nevermind, that already happened in 2016.

We better realize something quick.

Unless and until there is economic hardship inflicted upon the corporations and businesses in states that fund this shit, it will never stop

Sometimes you think that reason and morality will be enough to bring about change, but you realize that the only thing that will truly bring about change is a national General Strike or a Civil War.

These people...the ones who vote for MTG and the corporations that fund her would happily slit our throats while we sleep

You may dismiss her bullshit as "cute", or "amusing", but 10s of millions of your neighbors have been hearing the exact same shit she is proposing on thousands of hate radio stations 24/7 for the past 40 years.

Very interesting dynamic. She doesn't understand that having a particular ideology itself isn't a sign of brainwashing-- it's only when you are unable to question your own biases as having a basis in fact and science, that brainwashing can occur and be identified as such. Not that any ideology should disqualify one from voting.
