Pro-Trump media and lawmakers have, for months, been faithfully regurgitating the line that the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol cant have been an attempted coup or insurrection, because none of the hundreds of people arrested had been charged with sedition or insurrection.
But a federal indictment unsealed Thursday put a pin in that narrativeor at least, youd think it would. Ten members of the Oath Keepers, an anti-government militia, and their leader Stewart Rhodes, were hit with a stunning sedition conspiracy indictment alleging that they stockpiled weapons, engaged in paramilitary training, and even discussed a plot to transport high-powered guns across from their hotel in Virginia across the Potomac for Jan. 6, all with the goal of blocking then President-elect Joe Biden from taking office.

(22,354 posts)Mitch controls what legislation is considered by the Senate. Trump cannot pass, block or enforce any laws. He has the same power as any other celebrity, like the Kardashians.
If that's really what you think, I believe you've been missing a few things. Here's something to get you started catching up: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-08/trump-after-january-6/100736202

(18,122 posts)It's true that he doesn't control the legislative agenda, but just about every Republican politician seeks out his approval and behaves in such a way to get it. They will do and say anything no matter how outrageous it is. While technically, he has no political power, he has an iron grip on Republicans from the state level on up. If anyone behaves in a manner that doesn't please him, he will end their career.
I've been following American politics for over 50 years, and I've never seen anything like this.

At least then you wouldn't have people like me making fun of you for wearing glasses and an eyepatch....

(7,527 posts)I work with vision insurance, and it's more common if someone is blind in one eye to create glasses with one Rx lens and one plano (no prescription, just clear plastic in the frame.) In fact, no customer nor provider has ever asked about nor mentioned a monocle. I imagine someone would probably have to go to a specialty manufacturer or artisan whom would likely be out of network. We do occasionally have "low vision aids" which is often an add-on scope that attaches to glasses for an extreme vision situation, but that must be offered and covered by the individual insurance plan.
A patch is cheap, spectacles are the default. A glass/prosthetic eye and standard glasses would probably be a more common solution and is likely a one-time expense rather than updating a pricey monocle every year or two. I know our insurance doesn't cover monocles, and the copay or amount covered by insurance doesn't change if you only get one lens. If someone has a split Rx (one eye single vision and the other bifocal) the applied copay is for two of the more expensive type of lens.

'Oath' keepers - what exactly is their 'oath' anyway? Seem more like anarchists to me.
Strange thing is, like the Taliban in Afghanistan with no plan if they won, there was no plan of what to do if the insurrection succeeded.
